Re: Would you take your mountain bike up a mountain?

I have wee bell on my velo and can warn others when I'm approaching. I look at this in the same way as in skiing downhill in that the onus is on the person approaching from behind to avoid getting unreasonably close and scaring others....slowing down might help with this. :) I use my bike mainly on ...

Re: West Highland Way

I guess I got the wrong week-end....I thought that you were sending the reports as you were heading North  I suppose that this would be possible with the wee computers built into cameras nowadays? That long week-end we were up in the Fisherfield area where it was clear, sunny but with at times ...

Re: West Higland Way

Seems like much better weather that you are having today down there? Today, up here, it has been mostly a wet day. Is this you all just beginning your journey Northwards today?

Re: Helvellyn and others from Patterdale

I didn't know about the ski Poma tow(s)? in the Lakes....looks like a good slope for skiing. I have only visited Helvellyn from Thirlmere and went down one of the East facing ridges and ascended the other. It was some time ago like, 45 years, long before the ski tow went up. There is a lot I d...

Re: food for backpacking ?

Looking back to our last overnight 'stay outs'.....nothing too much in powder form excepting three packets of soup, one of which, the mushroom one, became a sauce for a pasta meal :) ....bread, cheese, four tins of fish, pasta, porridge, tea/coffee, honey, energy bars and some fruit :D... seems reas...

Re: Liathach on Fire...

Could see the smoke billowing over the Torridon hills from where we were on the tops above Fionn Loch. We were thinking that the old pines down below Alligin might be in some trouble.....but, I guess, just out of range.

A visit to the Fionn Loch Corbetts.

Our visit to the Fionn Loch area was from Poolewe and back. We walked in along the Kernsary estate road to the wee lochan prior to the farm where we cut the corner on a track to gain the Ruidh Dorcha trail and to transfer to the stalkers trail to reach Beinn Airigh Charr. Our camp kit was left at th...

Re: Beinn nan Aighenan.....the hard way

I've only ever accessed Albannaich and Meall an Eun from Forest Lodge....it's much more effort to get out to Aighenan via this long approach. :) A long time back poor old Ton Peters, a Dutchman with a passion for the Scottish hills, took a tumble on this side of Aighenen and lay for several days in ...

Re: overseas adventures

If you enjoy walking with rucksack, tent and wearing shorts most of the time.....Corsica could be your destination  Been a few times to the island and walked five of the Grande Randonnee. Most fit into either a weeks or a two weeks holiday....three weeks if you take in a few of the summits alon...

Re: A very long walk for one Corbett!

Beinn Bhreac....maybe a number of us will a story to tell about this one....I was twice on the top of Beinn Dearg during the day out for this retiring hill. And that after having been out for Beinn Dearg many years prior  I was only trying to keep my boots clean. :) Feels quite remote out there!

Re: JogLePlod2011

The 'tortoise man' is off again on his travels....I have come across your journeys and images....I think last time you began in the deep south west and ended in the North and the coastline journey, what was it, only 500 miles or so. Look forward to seeing your nature and landscape images from ...

Re: Buachaille Etive Beag

Must the Lairig Eilde approach? haven't been in this way.....have either gone in from Lairig Gartain or from the end of the BEM traverse. You certainly got the most out of a poor looking day. :)
