Re: Hill fitness

I had a similar issue earlier this year, and having been active in the hills for many years, its a key indicator when its 'just not right'. Appreciating the usual, getting older, less trips, or even missing a few weeks on the trot can all have an impact now. I've never been one for Gyms, or running ...

Re: What gloves for painful cold fingers???

I suffer from Raynauds, I only realise my hands are cold when they warm up, that pain etc that you experience as if you put really cold hands under a warm tap. The problem being I'm not aware they have got cold in the first place. I have several pairs of the gloves/mitts, the type with the mitten pi...

Re: Which gaiters?

The comments on the Yeti's are pretty much true, but to clarify. Yes they do need to be on a fairly stiff boot, mine are on Berghaus Kibos, which apart from being extremely comfortable are a B2 rated boot. As I said they are winter boots so the need to be able to take a crampon necessitated the B2 a...

Re: The Little Munro with Wee Dog Syndrome - Ben Vane

Great photos of a great day. It is a lovely mountain with character, one of my favourites in that area, although someone I know who has still to do it, won't be impressed seeing the cows

Re: Which gaiters?

I use to wear gaiters through the year but recently with trousers having heavy duty patches on the legs etc, no longer bother, preferring the freedom around the legs. However, for winter I still have my Yeti gaiters, permanently on the boot (spot of superglue on the toe). The additional insulation (...

Re: Mental health/hillwalking

When I look back, hill walking for me has been the one constant throughout life, something I have always enjoyed, and I guess part of that is because it is one thing I have had control over. The same cannot be said for other life events including depression. My first encounters with clinical depress...

Re: They called, I went.

A lovely report captured beautifully in your words. I can empathise with those words too, events that transpire along the journey, both on and off the hills, stay in the heart :D Congratulations and best wishes

Re: Lightweight winter sleeping bag

The key piece of advice has already been mentioned, in that it does depend on your good self and how hot or cold you sleep and I guess you can only tell that by reference to your old bag and how you've felt in that. the other key point is that the only thing keeping you warm in any bag is you ! Henc...

Re: Livestock, Your Tips and Advice Pls

Many years ago when I was in my teens I was visiting my Great Aunt and Uncle in Oxfordshire (Poffley End, Hailey near Witney). We always had a day or two fishing and on this occasion we were fishing along a river bank in a field of cows plus bull. At the start they were way over the far side didn't ...

Re: ...and another thing

Tryfan certainly provides for some great scrambling and its been some years since I was there. I don’t have any in born love of wild places, or at least none that I’m aware of from my parents. My childhood growing up in Finchley, North London, the ‘wilderness’ was playing with my friends along Dolli...

Re: current conditions in Knoydart

I was in Knoydart at the beginning of August and the weather was wet, the dry summer that we had experienced previously had broken. Water levels in burns were pretty much normal. I think weather since has been pretty much as expected, good days, wet days so I would expect conditions to be the 'usual...
