Re: Coniston Fells-12 plus Billy

I am sure there are better qualified people than me to give advice, we descended to Seathwaite but it wouldn't be to hard work to climb to Walna Scar where you can then go via the Dow Crag tops or drop down and go via Goat's Water and onto Goat's Hawse, the Dow Crag way means a drop down before risi...

Re: Shutlingsloe, a drunk, 12 miles and a wedding !

Hi, I think they are like Aunt Sally's, must have been a village event, like some have well dressings. It was a little surreal to come upon them with no warning. They made us smile and we never pass up a photo opportunity :)

Re: Pavey Ark/Harrison Stickle

Hope you get the weather, there must be some great views and you can do the 5 Wainwrights and not do a big mileage if you come back down to Old Dungeon Ghyll and not come down via Sticks Pass and Mickleden as we did. Good luck. :D

Re: Energy for a day in the Mountains

As you know from my walk stories we try to have a good fry up breakfast before we start walking, on the hill I take fruit or even a bit of bread and cheese or a salad depending on weather, when not carrying winter kit "The Commander" carries a stove for those who like a brew. Sweeties we l...

Re: Dale Head Horseshoe - 5 Wainwrights

Yes, I can't help laughing and having fun, that's what the days on the hill are all about. Yes, the Wainwright total is slowly rising, will be going for a holiday to the Lake District in June so weather permitting I could do it some serious damage. Glad you like the reports, I know many members are ...

Re: Dalehead Horseshoe - 5 Wainwrights

Hi Paul, don't know if Newlands Round is with Robinson, got the name from the chap who puts his walks on Striding Edge.net, as he lives in the area I bowed to his knowledge, forgot to add that we saw Sir Chris Bonington when we were going back to Keswick near the boat jettys. It was a good way and p...

Dale Head Horseshoe - 5 Wainwrights

Hello again, the saturdays soon come around and with poor weather forecasts everywhere our Commander decided the best chance was the North Lakes, so off we set early. We breakfasted in Keswick and would start our walk from there at GR NY 266 233, our aim was the Dale Head Horseshoe which with the as...

Coniston Fells-12 plus Billy

Hello everyone, as promised we set off on Friday evening for The Birks, a school hostel nestling in the lovely Duddon Valley at the foot of Harter Fell, arriving around 8pm. Our aim, on Saturday morning, was to walk from our digs over the road and break trail up to Grey Friar, we knew the weather wa...

Re: The Berwyns-Pistyll Rhaeadr

Hello to you both, hard to take a poor photo of such a scene, sorry that the Scottish weather is poor, just packed ready to go to the Duddon Valley later, the weather was originally heavy rain but the latest forecast seems better. Whatever we should be doing the Coniston range as Grey Friar is right...
