Re: Glen Dessary to Mallaig ridge walk. Anyone done it?

Anyone been in the area very recently and know what altitude the snow line is? Bidein a' Chabair is at 867m so I'm wondering what the ground conditions are likely to be like on the ridge in a couple of weeks. Short of a sudden ice age I'd be amazed if theres any snow of significance to get in your ...

Re: The Things We Do For...a Munro Top and a Sim

Re: Strathfarrah and others May or June

SummitViews wrote:Did the four 2 weeks ago . Long walk back to the start if going solo. Thankfully a nice guy called Weaselmaster rescued me with a lift , what a Gent

If you are solo I'd do the road walk 1st. Then its a straight downhill to the parking.Actually easier with snow.

Re: Hill maps changes

Hi Paul, a site I look after got stung by this too. I've moved over to open streetmap and the leaflet api which with our simple needs was a straightforward port and took less than an hour.

A lot of unhappy developers out there.

Re: Ardnamurchan - Any bunkhouses?

I've stayed at the Strontian one which was pleasant. A web search of your thread title will find the others.

Re: Mountain Newbie

The north summit of the cobbler is a walk.
Middle (and true) summit is the needle and is a short exposed scramble. You can walk up to it for a look if unsure. It is one of the finest summits on the mainland.
South summit is tricky and best avoided if unsure.

Re: What to pack for Bothy Trip

Assuming you did the full mountain leader training you will have done an overnight camp. What did you take for that? Shenevall does indeed have a full functioning air conditioned loo accessed via the following implement - https://www.ldoceonline.com/media/english/illustration/shovel.jpg

Re: A Top can be Tops

A few to go on a round of tops.
Was on Sgurr Dubh in fisherfield last weekend. Highly recommended, especially with the easterly approach. And if you want a remote feeling then visit the two on Ben Wyvis.

Re: Glen Clunie Ridges - with Corbetts

I didn't really fancy any of the Munros up around Glen Shee, which - at least viewed on the map - didn't look as if they had much character

Try them from Glen Callater or Glen Isla(very good) instead. Alternatively, all doable in a day from the road for someone of your stamina.

Re: Which is the easier, Forcan or RoS?

Its actually graded Mod in the last definitive SMC guidebook. At the low end of the grade but maybe because of the down climb.
