80% chance of cloud free munros!!

Checked weather right up to yesterday and thought perfect a view !! How wrong I was or MWIS that is, spent entire day in cloud, wind and driving snow on Sgulaird. Got to top but probably should have turned around. I know it's been asked before but what weather reports do you all trust and follow, ev...

Re: The Inevitable Plans for 2016 Thread

1. Get to at least half way with Munros. 2. Stop ignoring hills closer to Glasgow because they are not Munros. 3. Do some more camping to save the 3hr drives each way. 4. Do a wild camp 5. Break my Skye virginity. Suppose all the above makes the assumption that it will stop raining at some point......

Re: Aonach Eagach backwards

First time doing it today! Went east to west and included the Pap. So can't really offer advice on direction but can say it was some of the best fun I've had on a hill, felt like being a kid again. I had stashed my bike at the bottom just along from red squirrel campsite, the cycle back to the car w...

Re: Ways to train for the West Highland Way(Or other long hi

I'm a firm believer that fitness doesn't really matter a toss, it is determination that gets you there.. The fitness only dictates the speed.. If you can run 1KM, then that is far fitter than I will ever be, and I would have no worries about heading off to do the WHW . Having walked a few of the st...

Re: Camping for dummies

Many thanks for taking the time to respond and your suggestions. Loads of food for thought.... Just a trip to the shops now to abuse debit card, first few trips will be campsites to get used to camping. Like the idea of having option to take whatever I want since the car will be parked nearby. Might...

Camping for dummies

Questions I have are, 1. Will be going solo so was thinking about Vango Banshee 200, any opinions? I won't be out in se...

Re: Garmin GPS62s with OS mapping - help please?

Hi, Got same model and download gpx routes from this site all the time. Go to hill you want and download gpx route, it's a option in the menu that includes view map or nearby hills. I personally don't try and view it on PC, I just plug handled gps unit into PC via USB, the PC will open a user box, I...

Water! Water! and more Water

Done the 3 from Corrour yesterday, ran out of water despite taking 4.5lt's, yes that's right 4.5!! Bag was heavy. Got back to the station 2hrs before the train was due, as most of you know the station house is not walker friendly so could not even ask for a top up of water. Got on the train and the ...

Re: How do I hillwalk

Hi, Based in Glasgow also and yes Ben Lomond was first hill, it's a 40 min drive at worst from Glasgow and if you pick a half decent day it will be like Argyle St on the clear path to top so safety in numbers for you. There is also a glasgow hillwalking club on meet up that organise days, they rate ...

Re: Equipment for the WHW (in hostels and B&B) ?

good choice! each to their own but I know to me personally it just doesn't feel right to use a baggage carrier. There is just a special feeling to carrying everything you need on your back. It gives you so much more freedom :) I would agree if camping but the title says hostels and B&B's so jus...

Re: Equipment for the WHW (in hostels and B&B) ?

Hi, I've walked the WHW twice now, always staying in B&B's or bunkhouse. First time carried a ernomous rucksack from start to finish, 2nd time used the bag service, 35 pounds I think it cost! The best money spent ever!! Excuse my directness but if I'm staying in a B&B with a shower I would l...
