Aonach Mor

Parked half a kilometre west of the ski centre. Easyish first 550m of ascent to the gondola station though this necessitated some care in avoiding the bike tracks. From the gondola station I headed south east up easy grassy slopes but this became steeper and more difficult higher up with boulders an...

Re: A special overnighter in the Cairngorms

A stunning looking morning -worth all the effort just for that I imagine. Had a similar experience on Ben Tallaidh a couple of times except in the evening -ascended in clear weather only for a cloud to form out of nowhere on the summit but then, on both occasions, that cloud sank below the summit ju...

Sgurr Mor

Had to drive really slowly to find the car park in the dark and fog. After that a very easy ascent of Creag Dhubh Fainnich; the track up was dried out and quite springy under foot. Watched the sunrise then looked forward to an easy continuation to Beinn Liath Mhor Fainnich but was surprised to find ...

Re: Bin of Cullen

When we went up there, someone (probably the kids we followed up) had graffitied all over the stainless steel of the indicator with a marker pen. We spent a long time rather ineffectually using water and the last of our spare loo paper trying to get it off, Hope Jill could read it, as I imagine it'...

Re: Sgurr Dubh

In good fine dry weather we combined this top with the other Corbett Sgorr nan Lochan Uaine when staying at the Ling Hut. The descent from Sgurr Dubh required quite a bit of patience and Jinking about between the broken rock terraces to get a reasonable way down. :) I must admit that part of the re...

Re: The fallen Fortress

That is a sad story, particularly the court martial. Assuming this is the same person, they seem to have been quite experienced: http://www.rafcommands.com/database/awards/details.php?qnum=84673&qname=HUMPHREYS

Re: 'm on a wee hill...where exactly?...Monawee Hill etc

Hi litljortindan I know the Loch Lee area fairly well but have never done this hill before. I've seen your gpx at the end but can you just confirm exactly where you left the main track and was there any indication of it (I'm assuming just as you reach the loch side you headed on to the open hill)??...

Re: 'm on a wee hill...where exactly?...Monawee Hill etc

Have never been to or heard of this area, but it's another one that just shows there are cracking but little known gems all over the Highlands! There does seem to be quite a few glens with no big hills but still with good hillwalking. I found Hunt Hill was also a really good walk when combined with...

That's actually just Jill lost in her own world of relating the view indicator to the things she recognises on the horizon so it was fairly static finger pointing.

baffled by Balloch quantum map

our_route.gpx The Forestry Commission have helpfully left a map indicating where Balloch tree felling operations are taking place and which paths are closed (or have they?). However, I couldn't at the time make sense of the FC map; it was only after checking a photo of the map at home that I notice...
