Barra Hill

Sign says Barra Hill and the OS says Hill of Barra. Whatever, an enjoyable short walk to catch the sunrise. Originally intended to go to Clashmach Hill for a change but it was looking gloomy to the west and bright to the east so it was easy to change my mind. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ABL...

Helvellyn

This was the day after climbing Criffel and I remember feeling groggy in the morning but I must have been fit enough as I found the Helvellyn ascent quite easy. I recall a few people having to turn back at a steep and icy section. I shouldn't feel too smug about having had crampons with me though as...

Re: Steve Perry

A great read but very sad that it's someone who's gone now.

Re: Kilvickeon beach by long way round then did a daft thing

Always good to read a cautionary tale as memories of crossing extra rough ground do fade or get blotted out because of the trauma.
Excellent log pile photo.

Re: Bin of Cullen

Not an area I know but a good result for an early start. Hope the flu's on the mend - I have a recipe for a hot toddy which I take just before going to bed when I feel cold/flu symptoms starting - the cold still takes a couple of weeks to clear but I sleep well....  I shall bear that ho...

Steinman Hill

Not keen on taking the car out I decided to repeat my walk of last March to Steinman Hill. Not so much snow this time round so an easier walk but still a good bit of exercise and some good views of rolling Aberdeenshire. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ABLVV85rgieR0GKSLLvGHCZbhzjhMk8wLM14Nl4ycA...

Bin of Cullen

In retrospect this walk was a mistake but at the time I thought I was shaking off a cold that was, in fact, probably flu. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ABLVV85eBK_BzagVSOmJvvnQu0WjifWpU_NbK_hoN4QzrtZIu7ngvSUM9wYGw6_6friqGvNyuRqXOvqYroifyNRWvpE9oQiLfQaxAgEJoS5avtaeeFtUPTzIsKpxzRCt-WZtk0S7PPwm_...

Re: Boxing Day on Burach: hope not lost yet!

Looks a good walk and workout in the snow. There's always hope! For bad backs and for peace. Just takes a bit of time hopefully.

a very short unimaginable walk

Got up to go for a short walk nearby but was stopped in my tracks by the nacreous cloud. Having missed this over the last couple of days I thought this was a pleasant bonus start to the morning. An hour later and I was still wandering up and down the lane taking snaps as it was so engrossing and al...

Re: A top day out on the central Fannaichs

Great stuff. I was on Ben Enaiglair the same morning and could see the Fannichs looking very fine.

Re: First winter day of the year in Glen Affric

Quite a walk. I hope I will get to Mam Sodhail one day as I used to view it as Scotland's biggest mountain, courtesy of my 1978 Bartholomew road atlas depiction. Something like: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=10.0&lat=57.28042&lon=-5.15494&layers=8&b=1 Not sure I'd manage in t...

Re: Stac Pollaidh bealach sunrise viewpoint

Beautiful. Its such a special area, and Stac Pollaidh is right at the heart of it. Great photos. I spent a happy hour just sitting there last year, whilst the rest of the group went on over the scramble to the summit, that I've done before. It was just wonderful to have time alone sitting and conte...

Worked out well. Not quite ready for a longer walk in wintery conditions so this was a good alternative, the ideas mainly being to keep the temperature tolerable, to not stress the ankle too much and to get some views.

Re: Fabulous Frosty Fhionnlaidh

That report would persuade me to climb this hill. A nice mix of wide views and small details in there.
