Re: GPS device

I've a couple of older garmin GPS devices that I never use, I'll dig em out, you can have one if you want, no probs.

Used it for years, mainly for ME stuff, but some Ronhill bargains too, good site.

Re: Asking for trouble

No chastising, I'd tend to agree re Sauchiehall St, but we can't base our laws on a few streets in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Legislation has indeed been left behind by tech, but the same can be said of cars tbh.

Re: Asking for trouble

I'm too old and unfit to take my bike into the hills these days. Quite a few years ago I tried an electrically assisted Giant bike and it was so good but VERY expensive, so I couldn't afford one. This topic has got me thinking...how does the rule in Scotland that a bicycle is an aid to pedestrianis...

Re: Asking for trouble

It's a question, not a statement, to which LukeB provided an answer, which I fully accept. I'm curious to know why you thought it so bizarre? :? Because it's never gonna happen. People have been riding the bikes in the mountains for decades, every year we get those same type of statements, 'the hil...

Re: Asking for trouble

Absolutely, I'd much rather see someone sat on an ebike, than sat on a sofa.

Re: Asking for trouble

But what would the damage look like if for every walker there was a bike? What a really bizarre statement. LukeB is absolutely spot on. Not sure how much of a problem ebikers getting lost is, I don't recall seeing any mention of it in 2022 SMR report numbers, sounds like someone just doesn't like t...

Re: Garmin inReach mini 2

Do you want or need messaging?, if not, the likes of a fastfinder doesn't have a monthly fee. Just has the SOS button, which really is the one thing you need IMHO. I have an inreach, and never use the messaging or tracking, so it's not great value. I should've just got the PLB type but work bought i...

Re: Asking for trouble

What Matt and Druidh said, the descent off Macdui past Etchachan is one of the loveliest days I've had on a bike, last time I did it our ascent was up Sron Riach at the south end, a brutal but fantastic days biking. Claiming bikes are bad for the plateau while walking up there is just silly talk, be...

Re: The gore-tex vs. paramo debate

is paramo any better at reducing dampness where the pack lies against the back

No material will ever achieve anything with this, it's sandwiched between your back and the pack, there is no way any moisture can escape, apart from minimal amounts around the edge of said 'sandwich'.

Re: Hiking Eateries

This needs to be on the WH app! :D Anyone ever eaten at the burger place next to real food cafe? I'm often tempted, as I think RFC is over priced beige food, but there's never anyone in the other place. I haven’t but also always tempted! Is that the one that bills itself as a diner basically? Aye, ...
