Re: Bidean nam Bian

That's a great report Bod and Valerie. You certainly got a cracking day for it. It certainly brings back some fond memories of when I did it in, I think it was circa 1980. Funnily enough I did it the reverse of your route. On a day like you had it wouldn't matter. :)

Re: What is this?

About 20 years ago, I was in Balmaha, and there was a frog rain. Hundreds of them. I squished loads of them trying to get to my tent. And another time in France, it was a snail rain. On both occasions if it had been drier, I'd have cooked.

Re: Base Layers

I have a thermal vest. I got it as part of an environmental thing. It works as a pillow when it's cold. The thermal trousers scare me.

Re: Satellite Navigation Vs Map & Compass

Map and compass every time. If it's too bad for them, why would I want to be there. If I am there, either sit it out, or navigate slowly.

Re: Druim Fada (Corpach)

It's a hill I never want to do again. I did it from the centre as well.

Did you do this today? Only asking because a few days ago I was walking at the top of Loch Lundavra and there was an Outward Bound bus there, and the kids were getting dragged up Meall nan Cleireach and Beinn na Gucaig.

Re: TGO

I've completed it the last two years and I'm considering doing it in 2011 too - the thing to remember is that it's a social event, not a race and somewhat pointless if you're planning to stay away from the well-known unofficial meeting points. In that case you might as well do it outside of the eve...

Re: A Walkhighlands Meet Up?

Could someone post the dates and coordinates. I'd rather camp. The dates are Oct 29-31 and we'll be at the Glencoe Independent Youth Hostel just up from the Clachaig Inn. The Red Squirrel Campsite is a little further along the road from these two and there are tons of spots to camp for free down Gl...

Re: Satellite Navigation Vs Map & Compass

There doesn't seem to be an option for neither! :D I'm rarely inclined to go up a hill unless visibility is good these days, but even in the past I generally only got the compass out after the cloud had been down for some time and was obviously not going to clear any time soon ...... Never even tou...
