Re: Review: Kovea Spider Stove

Thanks Stevesey. I think I understand that bit- but if the canister is cold anyway how does insulation help?

Re: Review: Kovea Spider Stove

That's an interesting review so thanks for it - and also the link to the multifuel stoves too.

There was one bit I didn't understand:
the canister can be insulated to help the propane/butane mix burn off efficiently

Can someone explain how I should use this idea? Is that after warming it?

Re: Hammock tent

How long does it take to get one of these set up? I'm guessing it could take a while to get all the tensions right - especially if the trees have grown in unhelpful places. But I''ve no idea really.

Re: Access trouble in Wester Ross

That is for us to decide and make common sense decisions as much as the landowner. Absolutely agree. My point was that the leaflet might not help resolve disputes (and might inflame the situation) in cases where the land owner (or the walker!) is being unreasonable. Almost by definition that's when...

Re: Access trouble in Wester Ross

Just had a look at the booklet. I'm not sure it's going to help. For example it says we have a right to be on 'most land and inland water providing [we] act responsibly. and that we are enjoined to "follow any reasonable advice from land managers." These are not really sufficiently definit...

Re: High exposure scrambling : more dangerous than climbing?

To comment on the original post ... The only time I felt comfortable / safe on the Skye Munros expedition we were taken on was on the Inn Pinn. We were roped on and the hazards were (as far as I could tell) well controlled. A silp seemed to me to be just as likely on the rest of the scrambling we di...

Re: High exposure scrambling : more dangerous than climbing?

Not by me. Especially, in this case, where he has explained why. I think the double post makes a lot of sense. I'm sure Paul would have acted if he felt it was a breach worthy of complaint.

Re: Devils Point decent

Consider cycling to White Bridge as an alternative approach to Corrour. Apart from anything else there are fewer people milling about there so it feels more secure leaving the bikes.

Re: Keeping fit and munro bagging.

To me a massive bowl of pasta is the same as a bowl of sugar. It has the same effect on my mood and appetite I think that is where we fundamentally disagree. Just for my interest - what is the effect of a bowl of pasta on your mood and appetite? I can't say i've noticed anything special in mood. Ea...

Re: Should I wear thermal base layer this time of year?

See if you can find a cheap pair of regatta trousers. Wind proof, quick drying and (with a bit of TX-direct) showerproof.

Re: Keeping fit and munro bagging.

We as a species did not evolve to eat farmed grains Nor to manage our appetite or biochemistry in an age of food surplus Lots of interesting stuff in your latest post Milesy. Can't say I agree with all of it but it's got me back checking my sources. Here's one. http://www.bmj.com/content/346/bmj.f1...

Re: Should I wear thermal base layer this time of year?

I'd replace the T shirt with a thermal base layer if I were you. Thermals tend to wick better than most (cotton) T shirts.

Re: Keeping fit and munro bagging.

Some reading on Carbs vs Fat vs Protien http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/foodnut/09362.html Discuss ;-) Thanks very much for this. I was expecting it to be the typical sports nutrition nonsense (marketing disguised as research) and was very pleasantly surprised. Apparently eating a balanced diet w...
