Re: Women's walking shoes

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check those out! I am hoping to eventually get into trail running so it's useful that these brands cater for that too.

Women's walking shoes

Hi, I am quite fond of my walking boots and haven't ever thought about getting walking shoes.. till now! I'm going to Canada in the summer for a holiday, which has prompted me to consider it, because we'll probably walk a few trails and slight hills (no mountains, sadly, my friend is not up for that...

Re: Tips for first solo camp?

Thanks everyone for your replies. Sorry, been delayed getting back, what a rubbish low-energy week I have had! Hope I can get outside this weekend and things will improve. I'm still needing a better sleeping bag, but you have made the idea a bit less scary. I don't know why it makes me a bit apprehe...

Tips for first solo camp?

Hi all, been a bit quiet on the walking front... I hope to get out in the next few weeks. I started running, so hopefully that'll increase my stamina and let me enjoy walking a bit more. In the meantime, I want to finally do my first solo camp. I intend to camp near my car the first time, just becau...

Re: Recruiting women hillwalkers for research project... Upd

Why stop at 65? Still hill-walking (sometimes, but not often, solo) at nearly 77...ooops ......My mistake. I see you didn't put an upper limit on it, just that is who you got. There is an account on another website of a woman being made to feel really uncomfortable by men http://www.scottishhills.c...

Re: Recruiting women hillwalkers for research project... Upd

The 'man' danger is one I do take into consideration because I have to.quote] This is very sad. It is! I don't like it. I am definitely not scared of men or have any problems in general (some of my best friends are men ;) ) but I'm 5ft 3 and not very big so it's just a thing I take into considerati...

Re: Recruiting women hillwalkers for research project... Upd

The 'man' danger is one I do take into consideration because I have to. I've chosen to have faith that other walkers I meet will be friendly and of good character, so that's how I overcome it, but if you're somewhere remote and it's just you and you see another hillwalker, you can't know for certain...

Re: Boots - the best shop in Edinburgh?

I like Go Outdoors, mainly cause I feel I can spend ages browsing and trying things on (and I do!). Cotswolds is a nice shop but they're quite 'pounce two seconds after you're in the door' which I find a bit awkward. However, if you go there or to one of the others and find it really good please rep...

Re: The Inevitable Plans for 2016 Thread

I've lost a bit of my enthusiasm and drive for Munro bagging, so I have no idea how 2016 will go. I have no specific plans as in nothing set in stone, but I think I'd like to do the big Buachaille seeing as I did the wee one last year. I'd like to try a longer-distance walk to test my stamina, so it...

Re: How did you do in 2015?

It has been a weird year for me in walking terms. I couldn't get out for the first few months after my hip injury last October, so it was May when I got any hills done. Even then, hardly any, as my trip to Ullapool was marred by heavy rain most days and I'm just not the sort of walker who will go ou...

Re: Thoughts on organising future WH meets...

I haven't ever been to a meet yet (hopefully next time, at last!) but for the record, if I ever do come along, I don't ever want to organise anything, haha! I'm not a leader... I prefer to bumble along. Always happy to assist, of course (glamorous assistant? In my walking gear, haha).

Re: WH 'AUTUMN' MEET 2015 6th/7th Nov 2015 - Torridon SYH

Just remembered I have something on on the Friday :( Can I come for one night? It'd be just my luck, I'm usually busy when the meets are on but this time I actually do want to go!

Re: WH 'AUTUMN' MEET 2015 6th/7th Nov 2015 - Torridon SYH

It'd be great to finally put faces to names... is there still room in the hostel? I'm not a solo camper yet, so wouldn't be much use out on my own! Plenty room at the inn Chickadee, can get you in a girls only room too if you're quick. :D Oh... OK! I will... Def a girls'-only room, Gill! Thank you....

Re: WH 'AUTUMN' MEET 2015 6th/7th Nov 2015 - Torridon SYH

Thanks for the kind words guys, I'd like to come, just worry I'll bottle out at the last minute! I know myself quite well for that. I was up in Torrid in May and didn't get walking done, sadly, due to the weather, but it was gorgeous. I sat in my car staring at Slioch for about 40 minutes. It'd be g...
