Meall Dearg (Fiona)

userroute.gpx Mixing things up a bit! Remember Coinneach, my was supposed to be a hilldog that got sacked? Well 4 years on I'm giving him another try pairing him up with Zena for more adventurous walks since it is too much for Moss now and Dakota hasn't built up the stamina! It's a bit different wa...

Re: Kerrera southern loop

Lovely report, I do like Kerrera having been there a couple of times before :D Good to know that it probably be easier to buy ferry tickets in advance now. The track does look like it's the wrong wrong when it forks looking like it just goes to the croft. From memory there used to be a little craft ...

Fiddler's Path

Pleasant walk from Dunkeld, with a little detour up Stanley Hill at the start. Sadly the cathedral is still surrounded by fencing as there is still work taking place. Easy route to follow with signs and waymarkers along the route. Took the fishermens paths to stick closer to the river which were qui...

Re: Deer collisions

Heard about them recently so looked them up and there is no evidence they actually work whatsoever.

Re: Deteroration of Quality of Gear

Jon and Jen wrote:Hmm, they never seem to be on offer for £50 when I need to replace mine. I wear Moabs every day as my normal shoe. Since 2017 I've had 3 pairs and the last pair best price I could find was £85.

Check the Factory Shop, I got a pair from there last week for £50 :)

Re: Small isles ferry times

Hi if you go onto Calmac’s website, there is a timetable which shows the individual Small Isles separately. You can see quite clearly how much time you can have on each island. We’ve just returned from the Arisaig area and went to Eigg and Canna. One thing to be aware of is that the timetable may b...

Re: Small isles ferry times

It’s not just breaking down/delayed winter servicing. Something on is going on with booking. I went to Harris in April and the website showed no car availability (fully booked) for outward and return. So went as foot passenger. On the outward 30% of main deck was unused with the mezzanine level not...

Re: Whisky and Walks: Islay Holiday (Part 3 Laphroig and Lag

Excellent! Enjoying your tales from Islay, a superb island. Brought back memories too of doing that walk two years ago with my son who is a big whisky fan.First visit to the distilleries for me and I was so impressed by them…such beautiful locations and so well kept. Love the smell of any whisky bu...

Re: Small isles ferry times

Unfortunately the timetable isn't great for day trips. Only days you can spend significant time on the island: Canna - Saturday Eigg - Monday Muck - Tuesday Rum - Wednesday or Saturday (there are trips where you can spend around 2-3 hours on the island on some other days but it is tight if you want ...

Re: Whisky and Walks: Islay Holiday (Part 3 Laphroig and Lag

Probably my two favourites also…but then it depends on my mood and the variety. No chance of you cultivating a taste for a wee malt yourself? Allison used to hate whisky before a trip to Jura- she tried a Port Askaig (ie Caol Ila) cask strength snd was hooked😂 Probably not, the smell along puts me ...

Carraig Fhada, the square lighthouse visited twice!

Carraig Fhada is a lighthouse not far from Port Ellen. We first went on the Saturday when the lighthouse was a bit hard to spot... P2040931.JPG But fortunately there was time for a second attempt to actually be able to see the unusual lighthouse properly  P2110055.JPG There is plenty of parking...

Whisky and Walks: Islay Holiday (Part 3 Laphroig and Lagavu)

It was the last Friday of our holiday and the last two distillery tours for my OH! He'd left his favourite two for last Laphroig and Lagavulin. (And just in case anyone thinks we missed Bruichladdich, we didn't we did that one too but there really isn't much to write in a walk report for that one :l...

Whisky and Walks: Islay Holiday (Part 3 - Ardbeg)

My OH was certainly working his way through the distilleries on Islay! The second Wednesday he had a trip booked at Ardbeg, but that was in the afternoon so that morning we decided to do the walk to the woollen mill from Bridgend. There is a decent sized parking area and the walk begins by crossing ...

Exploring Jura

We took a trip to Jura from Islay taking the short crossing on the ferry and driving up to the beach a Corran sands ( https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/islay-jura/corran-sands.shtml ). This was the most beautiful beach we visited on our holiday and we mostly had it all to ourselves! The dogs had great...
