Re: Canine Hiking

Sounds like the dry food she is already on will suit her fine then so I would just keep her on that especially as she is already used to it and you can get a good idea of how much she will need each day. The harness set-up sounds great too, I don't walk mine on their collars either they only wear co...

Re: Canine Hiking

Weight-wise and energy-wise foods with a high meat content and no grains are best, these do tend to be on the more expensive side though but will keep things lighter. Depending on what she is already fed she may find it a bit rich but if she has a labs stomach then she'll probably be okay! I had a l...

Re: Seeking advise on climbing Ben Lui and Ben Nevis

Try posting in the meet-ups section of the forum with the dates you are wanting to go and see if anyone wants to join you :) You can get guides to go up Nevis, not sure about Ben Lui.

Re: I have some questions

There is a coastal path from Montrose to St Cyrus and from just before Johnshaven to Inverbervie (which would be a good stop off), but then there is no coastal path until reaching Dunnottar Castle where the path leads to Stonehaven. There are smaller roads that you could use to avoid walking on the ...

Loch Muick - now £4 parking charge

our_route.gpx Wasn't going to post a report since we only walked to the big house and back, with swimming at the big house and at the boat house for the dogs. Wish I had my bike because I was very much abandoned when we were heading to the wooden bridge as the dogs took off to reach the water! At l...

Re: Rewilding opinions

I don't think a large enough area could be set aside for a sustainable population of wolves, they would have to roam where they pleased and personally I find keeping them enclosed in an area with their prey, no matter how large, rather inhumane, unnatural and is nothing more than keeping them in a r...

Hot hot hot on Ben Ledi!

Yesterday was Moss' first hillwalk without her mentor Millie, who was laid up with a sore paw. Was almost tempted to go for Ben Lomond again, but decided to go for a new hill - Ben Ledi. We found a spot to park and set off, only for me to realise I hadn't picked up the lead so back down we went wher...

Re: Black grouse...

I've only seen them a couple of times, sadly they are a red-list species so they aren't particularly common compared to the red grouse that I usually see wherever I go though there are some areas where they are doing well and you are more likely to spot them. Last ones I saw were in Glen Quoich last...

Re: Lunchtime etiquette

I think you were invaded, simply lighting up next to others who aren't smoking - especially given the space available - I find very rude nevermind plonking themselves like that.

Re: Back up Mayar and Driesh

My local hills too, hopefully I'll climb them again in the next few weeks. I love that first photo of Moss but where did you find the mud - doesn't seem to be much about after the recent dry spell. It was at the start of the walk at the side of the forestry track, usually stays muddy there lol Nice...

Back up Mayar and Driesh

Weather was just too good yesterday to do anything but head for the hills! And having seen another report on these two from last week, two of my closest it was to be! I've done both of these before, but new dog Moss is playing catch-up and so these were her 2nd and 3rd Munro's. When I dragged her aw...

It's not a great crested newt though.

Re: A bit like a lizard

Great photo! I'm not entirely sure but I would say it is a palmate newt. :D Thanks Tom, could probably have posed a few more. If it adds to the debate then it did have an orange red under belly. Both have orange underbellies, the throat is really the only way of distinguishing the females of the tw...

Re: A bit like a lizard

It's a newt - either smooth or palmate. If you got a look under it's chin and it had black spots it would have been a smooth newt, if no spots then a palmate :) Otherwise very difficult to distinguish the two.
