litljortindan wrote:A special wee walk indeed. I take it the bunkhouse was booked well in advance?

It was booked pretty early, not too sure how long, but I can highly recommend it, the situation a views from it are fabulous and you get your gear taken to and from pier, which is very handy.

Re: Two very steep Corbetts to be kept for a dry day

What are you saving for the last one? I'll come up The Cobbler as long as I don't have to climb the last bit. However, it is no place to take a bad shoulder.  So I imagine it is something else. Just took another look at your map...aaargh, I was glad I did Ben Aden aged 70, another ye...

Re: Two very steep Corbetts to be kept for a dry day

Good for you I see the date was prior to you recent shoulder problems: you would have had 2nd thoughts tackling them with that. Agree about the steep sides of these. The descent, in particular had our muscles aching. Corbett tops ARE less busy, but I recently attended a Full House Compleation on a ...

Two very steep Corbetts to be kept for a dry day

Today's target hills were to be the two Corbetts tucked away beyond Glenelg an area I know quite well having done the excellent Dirty Thirty run/walk a few years ago. Mountain Thyme and I had thought about doing these hills before but because of wet and snowy underfoot conditions decided against it ...

Re: The Sgurr of Eigg, a special wee walk, with views to die

Great photos, the Sgurr of Eigg is a beauty and looks like a brilliant walk plus the view of Rum is superb. I can't wait to visit these islands to explore them, looks like there are lots of scrambling opportunities too... :D Thanks Chris Mac, you will love this walk, and you will love Eigg, ...

Aye it really is, but don't forget the other wee one on the North side of the Island, that's a fine summit ridge walk in its own right.

Re: Two far away Cobetts Glen Elchaig

I remember walking the whole length of Glen Elchaig after climbing Sguman Coinntich and Faochaig... It took forever  We will definitely take bikes for Aonach Buidhe. Something for the next summer! BP, some of these Corbetts are so remote, don't think I'd like to walk the full length of the gle...

Two far away Corbetts Glen Elchaig

We started off not really knowing which hills we were to be climbing, we had our bikes so it did see sensible to make full use of them Mountain Thyme had thought she had climbed Sguman Coinntich but after cycling past the village of Killilan was not so sure, so to be on the safe side and thinking th...

Re: The Sgurr of Eigg, a special wee walk, with views to die

We went at much the same time of year, October 2015, and stayed in a rather upmarket B & B for a few days. At one point we were afraid we might have to stay on the island as the ferries might be cancelled, but it was only postponed. Think we had similar weather as yourself. Reading your excelle...

Re: The Sgurr of Eigg, a special wee walk, with views to die

I remember this hill from when I camped up there in the summer - a very special hill. Impressive from all angles and hard to believe it's less than 400m high! t's not all about size  Hi Jaxter, was it a high camp you went for? It's a great wee hill, I love wee hills on islands, views are spec...

Re: Sub 2 Eigg Sgorr an Fharaidh from bunkhouse

Wish we had this report when we climbed it from far further back through much rougher rubbish until we got to near the cliff edge. Nice report. That's a shame, I loved that walk even with the tarmac, when did you go there and where did you stay. Really nice Bunkhouse for a crowd ,pity once again we...

Sub 2 Eigg Sgorr an Fharaidh from bunkhouse

Having been up An Sgurr in the morning and back at the bunkhouse for some food and refreshments Callander Girl and I decided it was too good a day to miss out doing the the other Sub2 Sgorr an Fharaidh on the North of the Island. This would mean quite a long walk on tarmac both start and finish of t...

The Sgurr of Eigg, a special wee walk, with views to die for

Our May weekend of the Argyll Mountaineering Club was to be held at the Bunkhouse on Eigg, and I was really looking forward to it. Ever since passing Eigg on the way to Rum last year I had wanted to climb the irresistible looking An Sgurr which dominates the whole island. I can tell you now that thi...
