Re: Hill maps changes

Hi Paul, a site I look after got stung by this too. I've moved over to open streetmap and the leaflet api which with our simple needs was a straightforward port and took less than an hour.

A lot of unhappy developers out there.

Re: Ardnamurchan - Any bunkhouses?

I've stayed at the Strontian one which was pleasant. A web search of your thread title will find the others.

Not the normal approach to this munro and actually on this occasion we didn't go to the summit.

Re: Mountain Newbie

The north summit of the cobbler is a walk.
Middle (and true) summit is the needle and is a short exposed scramble. You can walk up to it for a look if unsure. It is one of the finest summits on the mainland.
South summit is tricky and best avoided if unsure.

Re: What to pack for Bothy Trip

Assuming you did the full mountain leader training you will have done an overnight camp. What did you take for that? Shenevall does indeed have a full functioning air conditioned loo accessed via the following implement - https://www.ldoceonline.com/media/english/illustration/shovel.jpg

Re: A Top can be Tops

A few to go on a round of tops.
Was on Sgurr Dubh in fisherfield last weekend. Highly recommended, especially with the easterly approach. And if you want a remote feeling then visit the two on Ben Wyvis.

Re: Glen Clunie Ridges - with Corbetts

I didn't really fancy any of the Munros up around Glen Shee, which - at least viewed on the map - didn't look as if they had much character

Try them from Glen Callater or Glen Isla(very good) instead. Alternatively, all doable in a day from the road for someone of your stamina.

Re: Which is the easier, Forcan or RoS?

Its actually graded Mod in the last definitive SMC guidebook. At the low end of the grade but maybe because of the down climb.

Also, if anyone has a recent snow update, that would be great. (I've been keeping tabs on the ground conditions fb page ;))

Not a route you'll likely end up on but has some more general shots.

Re: Mamores from North or South?

When I did the easterly 6 we came in from the north. Started on Binnein Beag(major slog up here, traces of path).
There is an unavoidable burn crossing in Glen Nevis this way however and a trog along the road at the start or end.

Re: Ben Nevis tourist path current conditions

This came up on UKC this week too.

https://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/destinations/ben_nevis_tourist_path_conditions_and_crampons-682786

It also came up on a well known facebook group recently too with the unhelpful advice of "follow the track you won't need a map" :(
