Re: Stob a'Choire Odhair & Stob Ghabhar

It was very steep but I didn't find it too bad if I kept off the scree as much as possible (I hate scree!!) and scrambled up the rocks and boulders. The ridge was narrow in places and wouldn't be much fun in a strong wind but it wasn't difficult. I think some of the books exaggerate the difficulty o...

Stob a'Choire Odhair & Stob Ghabhar

I did this walk yesterday (12th October) in much better weather. Much better views (see attached pics) and no midges. The rutting season was in full swing as well. I varied the route a bit by descending via the west ridge of Stob Ghabhar to Sron a'Ghearrain and then going south following the fence l...

Re: Aspergers syndrome and Munro Bagging

Too much navel-gazing, guys! If it makes you feel good, just do it.

Re: Walking 5 Munros

When I did these hills I parked on the A827 at about 652378 and went up the path that starts there. This finishes at 662427 and you can start going up Meall Greigh. After doing Beinn Ghlas you can drop down across the hillside (no path) to your starting point. No walking on the road, no need to go t...

Re: Mount Keen and beyond

Enjoyed that - love the pinewoods in that area. You are actually quite lucky with the ticks - I think Helen gathered about 8 yesterday on the Glenelg peninsula. I am heading to the States for a while    Only going for a couple of months - will be back in September for more Munros...

Mount Keen and beyond

They had forecast rain spreading across from the west on Saturday so I decided to head east – Mount Keen it had to be. By all accounts the northern approach through Glen Tanar looked the most attractive. I always like to combine a Munro-bagging trip with a night in the tent so I planned to make a ro...

Re: New Boots for Munros

I have had a pair of Raichle Mountain Trail XT GTX boots for just over 2 years now. They have been superb, needed no "breaking in" and I have given them a pretty hard time with no ill effects on either my feet or the boots. I personally wouldn't be without Gortex for walking in Scotland wh...

Re: Bidean nam Bian

Brilliant pics. I would always recommend wild camping - no showers but then you can be sure of peace and quiet and some wonderful views in the morning. Also some campsites are very expensive e.g the one on Loch Morlich, where you are paying for all sorts of things you don't want such as washing mach...

Grey Corries and the Aonachs

THE GREY CORRIES AND THE AONACHS Looking across from An Gearanach a couple of weeks ago I was struck by the possibility of doing the Grey Corries from Glen Nevis. The ridge looked magnificent, all the way from Sgurr Choinnich Beag to Stob Claurigh and then across to Stob Ban. temptation.jpg And by c...

Re: The fabbydoo Aonach Eagach

I did the Aonach Eagach with a group of friends a couple of years ago. It's great fun and not that difficult. I think people tend to hype up some of these scrambles, which is a shame because it puts people off doing them and having a brilliant day out. I have to admit that we did descend directly do...

Re: Mamores

Hi Doogz I had already made up my mind to go back in the winter - it looks brilliant from your pics. Hi Mountain Coward The "interesting bit" on the Devil's Ridge is not that high, unless you count the long drop to the glen! However I wouldn't let that put you off because there is a path t...

Mamores

MAMORES My friend did raise an eyebrow :o when I announced that I was going to have an easy weekend and just do the Ring of Steall and a couple of other Munros in the Mamores. I can see why now! (What I meant was that I didn’t want another long walk in carrying camping gear.) I did find the Ring of ...

Re: An Sgarsoch and Carn an Fhidhleir from Glen Tilt

The building that I saw was not the Tarf Hotel which is much further up the Tarf Water. I wonder how difficult it would be to cross the Tarf Water. Has anyone done this? What I saw was more like a shed - not very comfortable looking!

An Sgarsoch and Carn an Fhidhleir from Glen Tilt

At last I’ve done them! An Sgarsoch and Carn an Fhidhleir. I’d looked at every aspect of them from other hills but they always seemed such a long way from anywhere. Which begs the question “Why choose to do them from Glen Tilt” the longest walk in of all. :? I just didn’t fancy Linn of Dee on ...
