Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Firstly, banning cycling would heavily and unfairly/unreasonably impact those who don't have a car and a bicycle is their primary mode of transport, so banning cycling would be like banning driving for other people. Secondly, it is illogical to ban cycling whilst allowing people to use public trans...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

I agree everyone should do all they can to reduce the spread of the disease and yes, the walkers on Creag Meagaidh could live at the foot, but that is unlikely. If they travelled from any town there was almost certainly somewhere they could walk closer to home. I agree the messages and law could be...

Re: Where's the picture ? - Scotland (part 3)

Cheers NeepNeep, that was a struggle :D. I was up there last year too, not for the first time, this pic was taken from Beinn Fhionnlaidh looking back at your camp site, your photo was taken from round about here (red arrow) I think. $matches[2] A totally different subject now, does anybody recognise...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

The walkers on Creag Meagaidh were definitely within the letter of the law but not within the spirit. The law is clear but unfortunately ridiculous. As long as the encouragement to stay local is guidance there will be people who abuse it. Dave I'm not sure I agree with that Tringa. Surely the spiri...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Another couple of mountain rescues. One on Ben Nevis where a couple of climbers travelled from Glasgow and needed help on the North Face. Both given a fixed penalty notice. The other on the same day was on Creag Meagaidh where climbers were rescued but it was ok because they were local and no covid ...

Re: ViewRanger/OutdoorActive Merging

GPS is handy for the worst of weather: maps in gales, landmarks in white-outs, etc. It's a shame GPS units are not seen as reliable for hillwalking. You try finding a modern yacht, from modest inland cruiser to ocean busters, that does not rely on GPS and digital navigation. Try finding a modern sk...

Re: Dogs and Hills

I'm not the best person to answer this but I think spaniels are the best, they seem to go for ever. Westies do have size in their favour, because easy to get over a gate or fence, and if it all goes wrong you could stick them in your rucksack. Chihuahuas would be even better for this, I saw a Chihua...

Yes that's it. The nearby loch under Binnein Beag has no name either, on the map. :?

Re: Name that Loch!

OK, as Grisu hedged around Loch Lochy without absolutely suggesting it, I'm going to say Lochy, as its pretty much the only loch closer to Arkaig than Morar. And it it is, Grisu, you can have a go! Cheers Mal, Loch Lochy it is and Grisu did mention it as you say. I don't think it is Loch Lochy Gris...
