Stob a'Choire Odhair

Took too much time playing about in the deep snow below the AE, practicing winter skills to go up Stob Ghabhar, although I think I could have made it with lots to spare. The snow conditions up high were lovely for walking. Walking up the glen afterwards I saw 4 jays together. Saw a fawn "in cre...

Beinn Bhreac-Liath and Beinn Udlaidh

Lovely time on BU with lots of Snow Buntings up close. Weather was changeable, hail and wind at worst, but it stayed dry clear and calm for most of my time on the tops, as well as for a brew in the bealach. Set off just at about 9am, back about 6. Nice to see the "wall" up close. The quart...

A'Chralaig

had to turn back due to poor snow conditions. met a koelner called falk. thick light snow, hard work, just like fhada and 5 sisters, apparently quite common for kintail hills.

Re: Four Munros with one crampon

Nice one. I found it pretty rough going up by the burn east of the wee dam east of Loch Ossian and I did it before, not after the 3 hills, and without deep snow to contend with. Hats off to you! I don't remember there being more than one smallish summit cairn on Geal Charn, on a fairly obvious line ...

Tinto with AK

with AK. first walk for both of us in our new boots! mammut, and regatta.

ak was given 1.50 as encouragement by a nice guy.

ak's first 200ft hill. keen to do all the donalds! saw a mountain hare on the descent to the south, still in summer coat.

Beinn Eich and Doune Hill

Set off about quater past two, on the last saturday before the clocks go back. Cloud on the tops, poor visibility from the top of doune hill onwards. dark from about 1/3 of the descent. saw the same barn owl three times in glen mollochan. heard a bird call that sounded like a miaow but starting with...

Re: Hill suggestions for a Lake District day trip?

That's great, thanks for taking the time to respond. I think Helvellyn for plan A, I like the idea of doing an otherwise busy walk out of season, and the name of the hill sounds good. Plan B in poorer weather will be Blencathra or dunfie's Grasmere horshoe depending on cloud level. Much appreciated!

Hill suggestions for a Lake District day trip?

Hi folks, My experience in the LD doesn't go much further than popping in to visit Scafell Pike on a 3 peaks day. I'll have a day passing through in November to myself and wondered if anyone has any suggestions? Preference would be for a 3000+ ft hill, possibly combining other lower hills too. Close...
