Re: The awesome Meikle Bin

I was up there yesterday too, with my wee boy, from 4-8pm. Weather held off for us, although the views of the Argyle and Breadalbane hills had gone by the time we got to the top. Quite a long walk in for short legs, but the allure of airplane wreckage at the top was too good to pass up! https://farm...

Re: Bagpipes on Sgurr Alasdair

Wow, I'd love to be there in those conditions when the pipes sound out. Must have been amazing. I recognise the second reel, what is it? (I know little about such things but do love a reel!) That's the Atholl Highlanders, but what was the first tune? If Skye wasn't already completely full of touris...

Re: Western Cairngorms expedition: On

Thanks for typing this up, it's a useful report that I'll probably come back too.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to bookmark, or "favourite" useful reports. This would be one :)

Re: Sgurr Nan Gilean v Sgurr a Mhadaidh & Sgurr a Ghreadaidh

FWIW, if I had paid to go with an expert with a rope, I'd be looking at doing an ascent which I couldn't do on my own, i.e. SnG via the Pinnacle ridge, or the west ridge. It would seem a waste to take a guide on a route which the average scrambler could manage on their own. I would definitely put Sn...

Re: First time in the highlands and wild camping

West is best, wouldn't waste a trip on going to Inverness (this coming from a Caley fan!) If you're up for going up north anything east of Tongue pales in comparison to what lies to the west. Cairngorms are good for long walks, but more popular. Ft William will likely be wet and busy. A bit envious ...

Corrour to Rannoch St, via Culra and Ben Alder

I've been working up to my first multi-day expedition like this for some time, accruing the bits and bobs of kit off eBay for the last month or so. The end of May seemed like the cut off before the midges, so it was now or never. I wanted to go somewhere new to me, and with the convenience of being ...
