Re: How to install the app

On an iPhone, you need to scroll slightly on that page so that Safari's buttons appear at the bottom of the screen, then press the 'Share' one (which is the one in the middle), then 'add to homescreen' as it says. On an iPhone, adding the app to your homescreen installs it (Apple don't use the word ...

Re: Sròn a' Choire Ghairbh and Loch Lochy hydro scheme

Just to update that there IS still parking for hillwalkers at Kilfinnan during the hydro works (which, if they go ahead beyond the current exploratory works, will last a decade or more). There are 6 spaces for walkers' cars just beyond the cabin at the works entrance. More space made be made availab...

Re: ChatGPT's advice on the Arran Route.

I've played with the new AI chatbots a bit, and they are brilliant at writing very convincing text. But as said above, in order to be convincing it just makes stuff up - which isn't great if you are looking for accurate real info rather than some nicely written text. I think that as the AI bots inev...

Re: Route Planner

A double click ends the route (permanently). You need just a single click on an existing point to delete it, and that allows you to continue plotting more points.

Re: Feet or metres

Although we use metres throughout the rest of Walkhighlands, I think the Wainwrights is a special case. The list is the personal choices of AW Wainwright who used only feet, and some of his summits are quite minor and don't even have OS heights. As it's his personal subjective list, we decided to fe...

Re: Can't print online map

We haven't made any changes, sorry. Printing is largely controlled by the browser you are using.

Re: Can't download app

If you open Chrome browser (i.e. don't open the link within a social media app as you will be using that app's browser), go to install the app, and have had the 'install walkhighlands' pop-up - then you will have installed it. It installs extremely fast as the app doesn't contain anything that isn't...

Re: Can't download app

You have to be using the system browser for your phone - you must be using Chrome on an Android phone, or Safari on an iPhone, when browsing Walkhighlands to install the app.

Re: OS maps not working in user reports

I don't know. I'm presuming you can still see Walkhighlands own maps - like on the GPS planner etc. ? Or on Scottish walk reports?

Re: OS maps not working in user reports

There's two ways this can happen. Either you have a corrupt file in your brower's cache, which isn't being cleared properly. OR (less likely) - those maps on outside Scotland reports are served from the Ordnance Survey's servers (hence the logo), and you have triggered some sort of ban or block at t...

Re: Viewing walks for an area in 'map view'

I think the latter two posters are looking at maps for individual routes. These are restricted so as to be used for illustrating that route. If you want to look at other areas and not at a specific Walkhighlands routes, or zoom right out over Scotland, you can use the 'view nearby walks' instead, or...

Re: GPS planner problem

Thanks. That's really strange, we haven't made any changes at all and it still works correctly on non-Apple systems, but has just stopped working on Apple. I've had a quick look but there are no messages on the Safari debugging console, so something of a mystery that we'll need to look into in more ...

Re: Maps issues

There are quite a few old threads where this has been discussed - e.g. https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=115694&p=477244#p477244 The biggest issue is around the costs of people who have perhaps bookmarked a single route map and then just use that to look at mapping on...
