A Greater Achievement Than The Ben

For many on WH a few days in Fort William would mean a hike up Ben Nevis, a round in the Mamores, or an adventure in Glen Coe, but my trip with my wife Cathie was for some much needed relaxation, giving us a short break from our grandparenting duties (much loved, but ever so tiring  ) and with ...

Re: New feature: walk wish-lists

Thanks for the addition. Pushing my luck! Is it possible to enable your wishlist hills to show in a different colour in your appropriate personal hill bagging map?

Re: How did you get on in 2019?

Due to normal family pressures, don't get out as much as i would like. Wish I could just go when it took my fancy, but needs must. However, managed to raise my Munro total from 20 to 46, and my grandson Matthew's total from 10 to 32. Favourite walk being Bidean nam Bian and Stob Coire Sgreamhach in ...

Re: Rab vapour-rise / torque jacket

Was searching through the outdoor clothing sites, looking to spend my Christmas lolly on a softshell and, guess what, had noted the Torque, Vapour-Rise, along with the Rab Salvo. Couldn't make my mind up, so to give myself a break, came on to WH and immediately found this. Leaning towards the Torque...

Getting to grips!

Looking for some advice please. I've been a fair weather walker for the last couple of years, but last week decided to try my nearest Corbett (Ben Ledi) to see how I fared on a day where the forecast was generally good. I have climbed it three times before so summiting or not was not a priority. Any...

Righting a wrong, a walk in the Campsies.

I've no idea why, or from where or whom I got the idea, but for some years I laboured under the misapprehension that Meikle Bin was the highest summit in the the Campsie Fells, and as such I had "conquered" the Campsies on my numerous visits to it's summit. So on discovering some time...

Re: Opinions please on 3 pairs of Munros.

No interest in going all the way yourself is good, you can stick to the cracking munros and really enjoy yourself! Not so much "no interest", that would be fantastic, I'm just realistic. However, congratulations on your own double round. Very impressive. Can't begin to imagine how many ep...

The Big Scary Two near Crianlarich.

At the beginning of September I thought I had managed to postpone three of the walks I had been chickening out of doing, till next year. And, to be honest, one year older, I think deep down, I felt I probably wouldn't get around to doing them then either. Bidean nam Bian and Stob Coire Sgreamhach, B...

Re: Opinions please on 3 pairs of Munros.

Find it hard to work out from your photo what "getting on a bit" means. But having done Bidean, I would guess it means as old as you feel and probably a lot younger than your chronological age. "Getting on a bit" for me means I'm 64 and only started hill-walking a couple of year...

Opinions please on 3 pairs of Munros.

Being relatively new to hillwalking, I have to admit there are three pairs of Munros within my capture area that I've chickened out of committing myself to take on, worried about how strenuous I would find them (I'm getting on a bit). Ben Cruachan and Stob Daimh, Ben More and Stob Binnein, and Bidea...

Re: The Big Scary One at the back of the Three Sisters.

You got a damn sight better day for this pair than I did! Good to see a youngster flying the Saltire at the summit of a Munro! 8)    Hi Graeme D. I'm sure you will remember we chatted on Ben Vorlich last year. Matthew has added a few more hills since then, but is stil...

The Big Scary One at the back of the Three Sisters.

Earlier on this summer I decided I would really love to climb in Glen Coe again and Bidean nam Bian was the mountain I really wanted to tackle, but, to be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about taking it on and when I had a day available for a walk, I usually found another hill to go to, rather than...

Re: Hello everyone

Totally agree with you about Corrie Fee. Mayer and Driesh maybe written off as two of the less dramatic Munros, but the walk is worth it for the magnificent Corrie Fee by itself.

Our first attempt at "bagging" 4.

Now I must admit when I when I started this hillwalking thing a couple of years ago, I was well chuffed with myself when, at my advancing age, I was able to bag the odd Munro. Not too bad old guy :).I picked off a few of the well known southern singletons. The thought of doing more than one barely e...
