Re: Windfarms..................That old cherry

Dead against the Beauly - Denny pylon line - should be underground in the most sensitive areas Nothing's happening in Beauly now but I'm dreading the very moment when the big nasty pylons spoil the landscape :( :( :( I spent a lot of time wandering about the hills and woods around the village and t...

One Cairn-well done trip!

After Saturday's jaunting up Cairngorms Corbett I could hardly wait to add another great day to my list of adventures. Despite Kevin's concerns about the car (clutch, gear box, what else?...) I convinced him to drive about 100 miles away from Inverness to Cairnwell Pass. I knew from other walkers th...

Meall a'Bhuachaille - how to start season with a bang!

At last, at last, after weeks of waiting for the right weather here it came! Wind gusts dropped, clouds disappeared uncovering blue sky... Well, temperature dropped as well, but for the sake of getting cloud-free summits I was ready to put up with some cold  As both Saturday and Sunday looked g...

Re: Which food to take ?

Pies and rolls are not for me, but I'm bananas for bananas   Fresh, sundried, banana crisps... Better and healthier than any chocolate treats. In summertime I take plenty of fruit, good to kill both thirst and hunger.

Re: Canada - Prairie View

Hi Chris, fantastic stuff as always. Wish I could visit this part of the world one day... We had a taste of proper winter this weekend. Not -26, but cold enough. We walked up the Cairnwell and neighbours (I'm sure you've done them, I think I remember your TR :D ) and it was a superb day. Much less s...

Re: Canada - Baldy Pass (South Approach)

Great to see you posting again, Chris :D :D That's an amazing landscape you've got around you now! And you have proper winter over there... Unlike in Scotland. I'm looking at my digi-temp now - +7*C and rising.

Re: Bridge cameras...

I also use FujiFilm Finepix HS10 with 30x zoom, last year's purchase and it was money well spent, maybe a bit bulky but it takes great pictures. I'm not a professional and for my personal use the quality of photos is superb. My previous one was Olympus C-725, only 3 megapix but good lens and easy to...

Ben Aigan - gone with the wind

My first hill in the year 2012 was rather disappointing, I must say. Weather wasn't great and with mountain area forecast for winds 60-90 mph we gave up on any ideas about serious mountain climbing. Therefore, we opted for a safe choice of an easy drive-up sub-2000, Ben Aigan. our_route.gpx The shor...

Re: Beinn Bheula from Invernoaden.

Lovely set of pictures and an interesting route :D
It was really blowy on Saturday, (predicted gusts 60to 90mph), I somehow managed the summit of a mere sub-2000 hill and it was a hard work against the wind...

Re: Geal Charn - minus crampons!!!

Well done :D Just a shame about the crampons. Hopefully someone finds and returns them... Geal Charn is said to be one of the easiest Munros, but in winter conditions any hill can be tricky. I did it last autumn and remember the route up as a terrible bog-feast, squelchy and sticky, yuck. Good for d...

Re: Dumgoyne Hill - in my lunch break!

That's not fair. I opened my curtains today to see heavy cloud and persistent rain :( :( And Beauly is only a wee bit further north! I guess we got all the winter, you got all the spring...
This hill looks interesting. A great little cracker with lovely views. :D

Plodda - my favourite waterfall

On the 2nd of January weather looked even worse than on Sunday. Not a day for serious undertakings, but I insisted on walking in Affric area. We left Beauly at about midday, but after 10 min of driving west we were caught in heavy snow storm. It took us twice the usual time to get to Cannich, drivin...

Re: New Year's walk around the loch

Have you not considered climbing Sub 2000s? There are some little crackers up Inverness way :D Indeed, I have. During last 4 years we've been up a few Marylins, just never bothered to tick them on the map. We considered climbing Ord Ban as it is a good viewpoint over the loch, we just run out of ti...
