Re: Cairngorm Mountain for kids…..

Hi, I took my Australian nieces to Aviemore two winters ago when they were over for Christmas and we did the whole reindeer thing etc... and there was a brilliant slope just past Loch Morlich to sledge on. It is literally a 1 or 2 minute drive past the Reindeer centre, and is before you start gainin...

Re: Unfinished Business in Glencoe

I was also out in Glencoe on Sunday climbing the wee bookle and it was a brilliant, brilliant day. It was -9C when we set off at 10am, and we reckon it was in the region of -15C on the summits. My only grumble was that I was slightly disappointed in the lack of deep snow, but when the day is as good...

Re: Ulva

I was going to suggest the Canal as a nice route from Edinburgh to Falkirk.

Re: A tough day for winter beginners

Well done you guys for getting out there and experiencing proper winter conditions ! Decisions are always key on the mountains, but in winter every decision is accentuated due to the lack of daylight, low temperature, spindrift etc... etc... and also due to not having a real idea of the conditions u...

Re: Glen Shiel - Sunday 10/12/17

Cheers Coop,

I'll bear that in mind. Was it a Sunday you caught the bus as I'm thinking the service won't be as regular as other days of the week?

You heading out anywhere this weekend?

Hi Coop,

I looked at buses but could only find the timetable for the route going West to Portree.

Do you remember what number service you managed to catch?

Re: Big Munro bagging days

Recently completed the Deargs (Ullapool) including Seanna Braigh in a one day effort.

Took 11.5 hours and we needed to cars as there was a large distance between start and finish points.

Awesome day though 8)

Re: Because it's there..

I will echo your sentiments about this time of year. I turn into an excited wee boy when I see snow on the distant summits. I love that even the "easy" Munro's in the summer take on a much more challenging status when they have their winter coats on. I love genuinely not knowing if you wil...

Re: My first Munro and a bout of vertigo on Ben Vorlich

Wow ! What a fantastic tale, so thank you for sharing your experiences. Vorlich is the most local Munro to me so I have climbed it many many times and in all weathers too, so know the final ascent you described. it is amazing how such a small covering of snow and ice can make a simple path in...

Re: River crossing/wire bridge - Craig Glen Carron

Hi,

The wire bridge is fine so you should manage to shimmy across with no problems.

I climbed these 2 last year but added Maoile Lunndaidh on too so don't know if this would be an option for you. It did make for a very long day (approx 12 hours) but was a great day out.

Enjoy, and be safe

Re: The Saddle and Sgurr na Sgine

What a fantastic area, and your photo's stir up great memories of when I traversed the ridge. From above the "bad step" looks far worse than it actually is, so if you ever repeat the climb I would suggest you give it a go if you think you are up to it.. I will definitely be back as...
