Re: Corserine and Rhins of Kells

Hello... Recall an estate Road passing a 'new technology company's' building and a number of trails labelled with Norwegian names....an estate owner from Norway? Car park with no problem with access. All neat and tidy on here. Must confess I got the track wrong to start with....turned off further N...

Re: New Coronavrus Tiers and Hillwalking/Campervanning

As Malky C says, the official guidance has been clarified today. Those in tier 3 or 4 areas are permitted to travel upto a maximum of 5 miles outside of their local authority to begin their outdoor exercise. Indeed, but ‘professional’ ha ha football teams are traversing Scotland, including lower py...

Re: Invervar parking

Try emailing the estate to ask. I tried this 2 years ago to ask about hill access in the stalking season. I very quickly got a reply from someone who was extremely helpful, letting me know that my planned route wouldn't be a problem, and letting me know where they planned to be carrying out stalking...

On a quest to find the Kielder Stone (part 1)

The Kielder Stone is a huge sandstone boulder located on the Scotland England border in the Cheviot Hills and is estimated to be around 1500 tons in weight. It is 26 feet high, 50 feet long and 30 feet across, and was used as a post box during the border wars. In those tempestuous times it wasn't wi...

Re: Moody Trossachs - finally the "true" summit of Ben A'an

Brilliant report, some cracking photos. Ben A'an is a special hill for me, as it was the first proper hill I've ever climbed, sometime back in the eighties. Great idea to continue out to Meall Gainmheich, never been there myself, but looked good, though I bet it was tough going with all that ...

Re: Lockdown walking routes.

Biggest problem with your route is how will you get back home? All transport will be shutdown by then, and it'll be illegal for anyone to collect you by car. No driving unless to the supermarket with a signed permit from Boris.

Re: MRT observations 22 March...

Totally agree with this. If we want to see an end of this virus it's going to be a long hard journey. Everyone's got to stay at home, except for only essential supplies etc. This virus is going to be here till at least a year or more, but by doing the right thing, we can be past the worst in 3 or 4 ...

Kirkhouse to Peat Hill and Deuchar Law, return by SUW

Hills climbed: Peat Hill & Deuchar Law. $matches[2] A scenic walk through Glen Estate, Traquair, near Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders. With nice weather forecast for the weekend, frosty with some sun, I decided to do a route which I've had my eye on for more than twenty years, just never go...

Wether Law circuit

$matches[2] It seems most folk climb Wether Law from Halmyre or Romannobridge, so I thought I'd write about the great circuit starting at the entrance to Cloich Forest. There's room for three or four cars at the end of the public road west northwest of Shiplaw. $matches[2] From here good forest roa...

Palacerigg

A nice route to follow as it was too windy to climb hills this weekend. Just to say that Palacerigg's collection of rare livestock breeds, as mentioned in the Walkhighlands route description, is no longer there. :( Council cutbacks I'm afraid

Re: Parking at Stanhope

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just go along and if my choice of parking down the private road doesn't look too great, your suggestion gives a good alternative. :D

Parking at Stanhope

Anyone know if it's okay to park on the gravelled area next to the bridge on the private road to Stanhope in the Scottish Borders? I'm hoping to do a circuit up Hunt Law and on to Dollar Law, returning back down via the Stanhope Burn. I ask as the road is clearly marked as private, and to reach the ...

Maxwellston Hill, Dailly

$matches[2] It was a beautiful winter's day, blue skies, sunshine, wind speed zero, snow on the ground, and a good hard frost, so a brilliant day for a hill walk. I didn't fancy doing a "big" hill, not fit enough these days :( and don't have crampons, etc. So opted for this one which I fo...

Re: Wind Turbine Spotting?

I was up there today, beautiful sunny day, but quite cold. I think the concrete blocks in Martin's last photo, are the anchor points for the supporting guy ropes on those tall anemometer masts that go up in the early stages of wind farm planning. You'd think they have the decency to remove them once...
