Re: Cape Wrath Trail Fast and Light: 230 miles in 11 days

Hi Gilad, I'm doing the CWT this May. I've attempted to do it fast before and failed miserably so I know how much of an impressive feat you've achieved. I'm watching with baited breath for your April challenge. I'll be doing it at a more leisurely pace and, at some point, getting overtaken by the Ul...

Re: Cape Wrath Trail - Fort William Taxi's

Old Stag - I know, I really like the idea of starting the trail with the ferry too. Unfortunately I don't have much time and don't want to have to rush. My dream is a nice slow amble taking it all in :D

Re: Where to stay near Ullapool

Look at The Summer Isles.
The Posties Path is a little known but stunning route between Ullapool and there. Can be a bit hairy in rough weather though. :D

Re: Midge Repellent

Whatever happened to Smidge that Midge? I was advised to use that by 2 guys bagging munros in 2014. Seems to work for me. Smells of citrus which isn't too offensive
Horse flies don't seem to like it either.

Re: Cape Wrath Trail - Fort William Taxi's

Thanks for the replies. Basscadet - thanks, I've stayed in that bothy before. After the train journey up I'm going to have 1 more comfortable night then hit Morrison's in the morn for a few snacks before I get going. I must have been looking at the wrong site for Sunday trains. The ones I looked at ...

Cape Wrath Trail - Fort William Taxi's

Hi all, I'm setting off on the CWT this May and due to time restraints I'm going to have to start from Glenfinnan. I'll be travelling up to Fort William by train on a saturday and staying overnight in a hotel. Does anyone know if I'll have any issues with getting a taxi on a sunday? From Fort Willia...

Re: Poncho Tarp

How did you get on?

I'm considering the same set up for May 2016 so I'd love to know if you managed?

Re: complete and utter newbie...and rookie!

Hi Barclebean, Welcome to the site. Let us know how you get on with your new adventures. My boy is 4 and I'm dying to drag him out on some 'dangerous walks'. Although right now I'd have him on my back along with the pack  I'm not quite up to pushing a go-cart up a mountain.......although comin...

Re: Solo Tent or Bivvy and Tarp?

Basscadet, knowing my luck it'll be blazing sunshine the day I pack my kit then **ss down for 2 weeks! Roeboe, the bivvy set up was all bought to be as light as possible so the tarp is an Alpkit 6x4. With no tree's about I'm limited to my poles for height. Once I'm in my bivvy I'm dry but obviously ...

Solo Tent or Bivvy and Tarp?

Recommendations for the Cape Wrath Trail? I'll be doing it in May so the weather could be changeable. I'll be using bothies where possible. I own both the bivvy & tarp system and a solo tent. I'd like to keep the pack weight down to a minimum but would the bivvy system be making life too uncomfo...

Re: Newbie.

Hi Rodmeister. I knew pretty much straight away I'd bitten off more than I could chew. I made it to Sourlies and took the decision to head back to Glenfinnan before I got too remote. That night in Sourlies bothy (just me and the mouse trying to get into my pack) was worth the pain. Utterly stunning ...

Re: Blisters.....prevention and cure (if any!)

Zinc Oxide tape! Always handy to have some in your pack. Once it's on it takes a week to come off but it'll get you through. I hate saying the words but 'as an ex army type' it's the trick we used on the many weighted marches we did. If you know problem areas cover these before setting off. 2 pairs ...

Newbie.

Hi all. Joined as part of my preparation for a second attempt at the Cape Wrath Trail. 2014 was my first epic fail. Naive ex squaddie who thought he could chuck everything he could possibly need into a plc bergan and crack on. MUPPET  27kg is apparently too much for a thirty something overweig...
