Re: Glenfinnan - Shiel Bridge in Winter

One year we hit mega snow going over Mam Meadail What time of year was that? Thanks for all the info. Rivers I can't really prepare for. It'll just be wet feet or detours at the time. I may be asking the wrong way. ...What is the best month to go so I can enjoy the beauty of winter without needing ...

Re: Glenfinnan - Shiel Bridge in Winter

Thanks jmarkb Yes I always have a backup tent. To be honest, I hadn't thought of the rivers but other than the one you cross descending to Shiel B, they all have bridges on that section......from what I remember....in summer :? -5 ...so a good 3-4 season should be enough? I remember the 'bypass' sti...

Glenfinnan - Shiel Bridge in Winter

Hi all, Can anyone tell me if Glenfinnan to Shiel Bridge is a sensible option in Feb/Mar time? I've been through twice before in May and Aug but never in colder conditions. This stretch is one of my favourite of the CWT and I'd love to see it at a different time of year. I would be taking it easy an...

Re: The Desert of Arran

Thanks Iain. Yeah on reflection and with hindsight, I'd carry more water and take it a bit slower. It seemed a shame to be slogging late into the evening just to find water. I would have liked to have camped near a few of the villages and maybe had a pint n a wee dram.....when in Rome  To be f...

Re: Appreciation

I totally agree!
If people can spend the time looking at a report, they could also spend the time to hit LIKE.
It's a small thankyou for making the effort.

Posties Path - Culnacraig to Ardmair (Ullapool)

I've noticed there isn't much in the way of photos for this short trail so I've dragged some out of the depths to show it off. I walked it in 2015 during a holiday in Coigach after hearing about it for years. As I started the weather was perfect but unfortunately, as it does in the Highlands, it wen...

Re: Arran Way

Hi Glenshee I did it in 3.5 days but that was pushing a bit far for me tbh. I'd go for the camper option. There seemed to be regular buses circling the island so I don't think you would have any trouble there. I've no idea of bus schedules though. As for how long.... I'd take as long as you have and...

Just don't set off at 4.30 in the afternoon! It's a bit dark on the return path.

Re: A9 laybys

Going by the marker posts other roads have, it's as you're thinking.
When you're in the middle of nowhere it gives a guide to your position.

Assuming they are numbered heading north, it's like a stairway to heaven :D

Glenshee Ski Centre Parking

Hi My next target Munros are the collection surrounding Glenshee Ski Centre. Does anyone know if parking there for a few days is possible? Also, will shooting season be an issue on those Munros at the end of August? I'm aware it's close to Balmoral :( I dont want to end up with royal shrapnel in my ...

Majestic Stags and Long Slogs at Lochnagar

After reading the 'Multi-Munro Routes' article I thought I'd give it a whirl. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4320/35937160915_056ab8203f_c.jpg Spittal of Glenmuick car park. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4310/35127867833_749b5aa94d_c.jpg On route up Lochnagar. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4230/35...

Garmin Tech Question

I wouldn't say I'm a technophobe but I'm no genius..... I have a Garmin 64s which l basically use for location and distances. I'm sure it can do many other things but I've never really been interested. My wife has just asked a good question though.....is it possible for her to watch where I am 'in r...
