Re: Beautiful day on Lochnagar

Great pics. I'm heading there this weekend. Hoping to get your weather!

Beinn Eighe has the wreckage of a Lancaster bomber. Stunning mountain too. Well worth a look to Kinlochewe 8)

Re: The dark secret of Lochnagar

Ooh well timed as I'm heading up there to do the round this weekend :)
Fingers crossed I don't get 40-50mph winds as I'm aiming for a high camp.

Great photos as always!

Re: CWT - a Coigach-Assynt variant

 Thoroughly enjoyed!!! It's great to see Di in a report. Having been going up to that area for about 38 years, I know Di well. She's a character and you couldn't find a better human being. I followed the Posties Path in 2014 having always heard 'whispers' of it for many years. It's a bit treac...

Re: Hi

Don't do the CWT. It takes over your life! Every time you fancy going for a mooch in Scotland you end up wanting to do a certain section of that trail  Plus your other half starts snoring every time you mention it....which is a lot! Saying that....I believe you may have a willing guide living ...

Re: West Highland Way June 2017 - What an adventure!

Well done. Great report! Ref the issue with your tent - the photo you have posted of your pitch shows the guy lines attached to the outer sheet pegs, you need to pull the guy lines out further to pull the outer away from the inner. That will give you the ventilation gap you need and allow any...

Re: Overnight camp on Goatfell

From memory there was a nice grassy bit just off the summit, but I guess that would depend on the wind direction whether that would be much use! I'll second that. I'm sure there was a grassy patch to the west side of the summit. I was up there in May. I was heading up late afternoon, everyone else ...

Re: WHW down. Suggestions for next trail with lots of towns?

That doesn't sound right :? I didn't have any problems like that with mine. There should be a good gap all round. Arran isn't difficult at all. Just a bit of a slog on the roads at times. I struggled with finding water but it was a dry spell of weather. If you're happy to knock on doors to ask to fi...

Re: WHW down. Suggestions for next trail with lots of towns?

Arran Coastal Way. You could be in or near a town every night if you wanted.
I've just done a TR if you want more info....

By the way, how was the tent?

Re: EHW, GGW or others?

Cape Wrath Trail - Glenfinnan to Shiel Bridge.

Bus stop at Shiel Bridge to get back to a rail station.
If you want to make it a bit longer, start at Fort William.

Not a trail you will regret! Or forget for that matter... :D

Re: Pork Scratchings

I should strengthen my claim, by the way: I mean, when I say 'they don't normally look like that', I mean I've eaten a fairly comprehensive selection of pork scratchings in my life (I decided a while ago they were great and tracked down every variety I could find to establish the finest), and I hav...

Re: socks and contact dermatitis

Hi, It's just a kind of 'sweat rash' that will clear up after a few days. A combination of salt, moisture, heat and rubbing doesn't go well on the skin. If your on a multi day trail try to wear sandles, flip flops, gel shoes etc from the moment you stop. No socks.....rinse and dry if possible. Best ...

The Desert of Arran

Saturday 6th - Brodick to High Corrie via Goatfell Forecast looked good for a dry week - little I know just how dry! On the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick, due to arrive at about 2pm, I was looking up at Goatfell and planning my journey. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4183/34713739805_b8180...

Re: Southern Munros

Going up the A9 will get you quickly to some nice hills, perhaps the Drumochter munros with a nice high start, or up Glenshee for the White Mounth. You probably want a 3 day weekend if you don't like ridiculously early starts though. Have a wee look at some of our TRs - we drive up from Teesside - ...

Re: Southern Munros

Arrochar might be good, not too far north of Glasgow, four Munro's there with Ben Lomond nearby. Also close to Crainlarich group of Munro's. However camping in the Loch Lomond National Park area should be checked out beforehand. Plenty formal campsites available too. Enjoy whatever you decide! Than...
