Southern Munros

Hokey Cokey. I've got a long weekend coming up and I've managed to lose the family to the in-laws 8) I want to start my bagging of Munros. Can anyone give me a good target area? I want to be able to drive from Co.Durham Saturday morn, walk to a good place to set up base camp, then start bagging surr...

Re: Multi Day Trail Rucksack

Careful of thinking you need more room... I used to drag along everything including the kitchen sink - now I weigh and consider packed size/shape of every single item I take and long treks are much nicer as a result. Yes, I have a tried and tested kit list. All as light as possible. It all generall...

Multi Day Trail Rucksack

Recommendations from Long Distance Trail enthusiasts please :D Until now I've had a minor love affair with my Osprey Exos 48. I would cram, tie, wedge and strap everything in or on. I would MAKE it work. It's now starting to show its age and burst at the seams......just like me  I was also find...

Re: Wanted: 1 or 2 person tent 2kg or under

No probs. Hope you're happy with it.

Just remembered, there's another vid on YouTube showing how to set it up to pitch all in one. Keeps from getting your inner wet if it's already raining.

Enjoy

Re: Wanted: 1 or 2 person tent 2kg or under

I was seriously considering the Blade 100 (being short is the best). I read that the ventilation was pretty poor, have you had any major issues with condensation? Is it fairly stable in the wind? Hi, I went for the blade originally for the height. I wanted to be able to sit up. I had some fairly he...

Re: Wanted: 1 or 2 person tent 2kg or under

You can probably pick up a Vango Blade 200 for less than £100. Swap the guy lines for Dyneema cord and the pegs for lighter ones. Mine is just a sliver over 2kg now. Awesome tent :D That said, if you're only 5ft a Blade 100 would probably do you. Just over 1kg. I'm about 6.1 and the 100 worked ok fo...

Re: Isle of Skye or Isle of Arran??

I'm heading to Arran this Saturday to do the Coastal Way. I'm intending on using it to do my 1st trail report, so hopefully (if I can figure out how to get photos on here without them being tiny) there will be something to help you decide  I prefer the north west but Arran is a lot closer and ...

Re: West Highland Way Failed Attempt

 Hold your head high mate! I also had an epic fail on my first attempt at the CWT. Same mistakes as you. Far too much weight. The soles of my heels were pretty much complete blister. I managed 3 days. About 2 days after, I started losing all the skin off the pads of feet.....not pretty. Now do...

Re: Big grey man and other weird happenings

Maol Bhuidhe bothy! Spent a night on my own in May last year. Not sure if I dreamt it all but I was woken by the sound of boots coming down the stairs and opened my eyes to what I could only call an apparition leaning over me. I jumped a mile! Turned on my head torch to an empty room. Then noticed i...

Re: Barrisdale Bay/Kinloch Hourn to Shiel Bridge - alternati

Hi Sjiep,

I can't say anything about the alternative route but I found the Forcan ridge route pretty hard going with a full pack. I did Kinloch Hourn to Morvich, by which point I was done in.

It's doable but don't expect an easy day.

That said, it's stunning and well worth it!

Re: Buffalo shirts

Just to throw my experience in the mix.... I bought a Buffalo top in 1998 from the NAAFI while on tour in Bosnia. I was wearing it this weekend when I was out on the local fells. It's a little tatty but still going strong. It's got to be pretty chilly to be able to wear it when doing anything active...

Re: Munro compleatist??

This is my fault  I wanted to clear my list but not look like I'd only done a few Munros  I know  so with a quick conversation with Paul Webster we agreed that the easiest way to do this was list Munro Compleatist under activity (easy really) So in theory anyone can have their act...

Re: Munro compleatist??

Yes, guilty of compleation, waffling drivel, and doing 70 odd repeats.. As it happens I climbed 282 munro's (one was already bagged and one got demoted during my round) and 58 repeats in less than 5 years, so if you had started 20 years ago you would be on your 5th round by now  I'm already gu...

Re: Munro compleatist??

If you click on such a person's name their profile will come up. It will tell you the number of Munro rounds they have completed. EG. A Munro Completist [Sorry! I can't bring myself to spell it with an "a"] who has 84 Munros listed will have completed one or more rounds. The 84 Munros wil...

Munro compleatist??

Just wondering...... I've always assumed that the title Munro Compleatist meant the person had 'bagged' all the Munro's. Although, I see some people with this title then with a number of Munro's against their name. Does this mean they have done them all then gone back for more? If that's tru...
