Re: Seven Fife Marilyns...in a day

Seriously impressive stuff - and each time it becomes more impressive! Think my one-day-max is three so seven is daunting even for a 24 year old.

Re: Lost Phone on Buachaille Etive Mor

Update: Have been lucky enough to have a very kind man return it - turns out I'd lost it on the ascent/descent of SnB and it had only been lying about for 10 mins or so. That phone's not coming out of my bag any time again soon! Thank you again Mr McCulloch!

Re: The Ring of Fire: Compleating the Donalds

Wow Chris what an end to the round that was! I'd seen your tally at 89 for a while and though "oh jeez what's coming" The 52km I walked with a tent for the Lowthers in those conditions pales to it - 40km longer and you had wind/rain to deal with rather than just the clag! To think it...

Lost Phone on Buachaille Etive Mor

Managed to lose my Vodafone Smart X9 somewhere between the descent off Stob na Doire and the Stob na Broige summit. Chatted to a slightly dodgy chap at the far Munro who could have pocketed it although pretty unlikely - he was probably just a bit mad with no ulterior motive! Most likely it'll be sli...

Re: Ben Lawers 7

I did it myself (1 car) last week. Parked at far end of the dam and cycled to the Lawers hotel (took about 40 minutes and is mainly downhill). Whole trip was approximately 8.5hrs.

P.S. You were right about Beinn Talaidh. Pretty sure these will be Arrochar Alps you were seeing.

Cheers good to know! Thought it could be Arrochar :D Bugger I should have been paying more attention, I'd have got a much better sleep

Re: Kilmartin-Furnace Wildcamp via 3 Marilyns

That's a pretty impressive route with all sorts of interesting scenery. Fair to say I am unlikely to ever attempt it though! Some good views of Jura, Scarba and Mull at the beginning too :D . I'm sure I'll get up some of these at some point, although probably by more normal means  . Some awes...

Kilmartin-Furnace Wildcamp via 3 Marilyns

- 17/08/2020 - 18/08/2020 - 10.25hrs (11.5hrs incl. day 2) - 27.6km (32.3km incl. day 2) - 1498m (1550m incl. day 2) I'd had this walk in mind for a few months as an easy 2-day bothy trip to do with friends, however with the MBA strongly suggesting against staying the night at any of their propertie...

Re: Beinn a'Bhuiridh

(does anyone else ask "why am I doing this?" only to start planning the next trip as soon as back at the car).

On this very hill a couple of weeks ago

Re: Little Conval

Those wee berries are Cloudberries (Rubus chamaemorus)! Apparently we call them 'averin' or 'evron' in Scotland but I've never heard anyone say so. I've only seen them ripe twice - once on Dun Rig at Peebles and once on Meikle Says Law in the Lammermuirs.

Re: Forlorn in Lorn

Also sorry to hear about your loss, Al. I'd had plans to do seven of these unreported hills last week in a big day outing but glad I didn't now as your report is a wonderful tribute. I'm sure the hills will provide some mental 'fasgadh' as they always do - best wishes.

A decent-sized day out! Can't believe my ascent was the height of a Munro

PeteR wrote:Think I'll be returning to your report at some point, as I still have the sub 2000s in this area to do.

They might be small hills, but some great views by the looks of it.

Aye great views Pete - I'd recommend Cnoc Reamhar - a bit of a hassle to get to but stunning in my estimation!

Stob Odhar - Highest Point in Knapdale

Well I haven't written a report in almost 8 months, mainly for the fact that I've not climbed anything necessitating a report in all that time, really just climbing the odd already-well-documented marilyn or tump (the latter particularly during lock-down) but its good to see I can still bash one out...

Re: Hundleshope and other heights

A lovely walk that - we finished our horseshoe in Hundleshope too, which was one of the most scenic glens I've walked in in the Southern Uplands. That secret glen seems to be Glenrathope. Never got round to that area but Macbeth's Castle and Cademuir Hill still ask for a day out! That photo of Cadem...
