A Lingmell - Great End - Scafell Pike circuit from Wasdale

Another walk from our late September week in the Lakes. The forecast for the Friday was particularly good so the decision was made to go for the big one, Scafell Pike. We’d last done this from Seathwaite back in August 1998 (way before we’d started ticking off hills in earnest) but although the day ...

Re: Great Gable & Kirk Fell

Another excellent report, poppiesrara, and you certainly had a great day for it. We've still to do these so always useful to get ideas of how to combine different routes. One thing's for sure though, we'd take a lot longer than your four and a half hours! :D

Re: Almost a Hewitt – Mynydd Troed

Nice report. Did these two last summer in anticlockwise fashion from the pass - but getting up the southern end of Mynydd Troed after we'd descended from Mynydd Llangorse was a major fight through the bracken. The top of the ridge itself is very pleasant wander as you suggest so I suspect there must...

Re: A Grasmoor surprise

Did Grasmoor on the Friday in the sun. Thanks Stevesey - some nice pics in your report too. Yes the Friday of that week was a stunner so we were up Scafell Pike that day (which I might do a report on shortly). Only once have I walked through the cloud to a similar scene to yours. Some fantastic sig...

A Grasmoor surprise

This was the second day of our week in the Lakes. The previous day we had done Great Borne and Starling Dodd from Ennerdale and after a bit of a misty start the clouds had gradually lifted throughout the day. We for hoping for similar fortune today as we drove towards Buttermere from Lorton. 2013092...

Re: Six ticks in the rain.

Still - they've got to be done sometime. Full marks for perserverance on what looks like a pretty gloomy sort of day. And I've yet to hear of a good word for Foel Cwm-Sian Llywd!

Re: Trekking in Ladakh: Prologue

What a great set of reports! Really interesting to see what Leh and its surroundings are like too. When we did our Annapurna trip last year some fellow travellers were saying that Ladakh was next on their list and I can see why.

Re: Where's the pic (England) v3

Of course it is. I forgot it was on the C2C. We were just doing a circuit from Crosby Garrett at the time & Smardale Gill was very good for wildflowers in the spring.
Your turn, Dave.

Re: Where's the pic (England) v3

Finally got round to this (been down to Abergavenny to do Ysgyryd Fawr today). But back to England. Not a hill this time - instead, name the bridge.

Re: Where's the pic (England) v3

Looks like the descent from Simon Fell (which I remember as being rather loose and unpleasant at the start) in the direction of Braithwaite Wife Hole.

Yes that fits - the pic reminded me of the view from Mickle Fell when we did it last year.

Slogger's right of course with Longridge Fell. S'pose it was bound to be in someone's back yard! Over to you,Dave.

Re: Where's the pic (England) v3

Thanks Col, though I have to admit I haven't quite figured out where you were standing. Am I right in thinking you've been busy in the Pennines this year?

Here's a pic from last autumn - this fine trig point is on which hill?

Re: Where's the pic (England) v3

So is this a cunning photo - i.e. it is the Great Dun Fell golfball on the horizon but the arrowed hill is in front, somewhere like Meldon Hill?

Re: 100 up on Lakelands finest mile

Congrats from this corner of Worcester too. I've very much enjoyed reading your reports this year so keep them coming. When do you think you'll get the remaining 114 done?

Drygarn Fawr from Abergwesyn

Hillwalking trips have been few and far between in the first six months of the year with a mere 3 Hewitts and a couple of local Marilyns to add to our tally. This weekend we were camping at Fforest Fields, which made a good base to tackle Drygarn Fawr. This seems to be more often tacked from the nor...
