Might I suggest that the OP joins a local Hillwalking or mountaineering club in order to gain some experience and lessen the risk of coming to grief? There are several to choose from in Aberdeen. It's a great way to safely learn hillcraft.

True. It's more suited to low level long distance type of walks rather than high level summit bagging kind of walks.
