From other reports I gather it was a fundraiser for Dementia UK.

Re: ironing board

I still have somewhere the original Extreme Ironing book. Many of the situations chosen required a fair amount of labour, ingenuity, skill, and not least, wit: none of which qualities is apparent from this pathetic effort.

Re: Long distance walking - what's the equivalent of a munro

If serious about needing an objective target list to work through, then perhaps look to France, where there has been a structured and numbered system for listing the GR long-distance paths for many decades.

Re: Long distance walking - what's the equivalent of a munro

What's the completionist equivalent for a long distance walker of being a munroist? There cannot be one without an objective criterion which limits the contents of the list. In the case of Munros etc that criterion is height, and the identity and number of the objects thus defined are immutable exc...

Re: Dartmoor camping ban overturned on appeak

Having comprehensively lost their case at the Court of Appeal, the landowners (the Darwalls) are now appealing to the Supreme Court!

Re: Beinn Bhuidhe Knoydart

Some other walkers who'd gone down the track the day before had tried to warn me off taking it as being unpleasantly loose and steep and whilst it wasn't flat tarmac (thank goodness in a place like that!), I didn't think it was especially bad, and it looked better to me than any alternatives from t...

Re: Beinn Bhuidhe Knoydart

The track relates to continuing work on enhancing the long-established Knoydart community hydro scheme, which powers Inverie and most of the peninsular. The water head is Loch Bhraomisaig.

Re: Women competes all 282 munros self-propelled in 31 days!

Has she yet published her route and daily timetable? https://geotracks.co.uk/live/1695 Thanks. Route is now very clear - but what I can't find is her schedule day by day. There just seem to be times from previous checkpoint and accumulated total time. I'm not used to this app, so maybe I'm missing ...

Re: blister prevention

Before a long trip I've always used the old trick of hardening the skin for a couple of weeks by rubbing daily with surgical spirit.

Re: Walking Poles Review

surprised they did not mention pacer poles - i love mine and could not go back to normal handles. Addition of official pacer pole short cropped over mitts - has made them even better, no need for gloves now !! Those little mitt attachments do have a remarkable effect, far more than you'd expect wit...

Re: Glasses

No use to you unless/ until you get cataracts. Only the day before the.op they asked if I wanted to be long or short sighted. Hill walking being the.most important consideration, I thought what would happen if I lost my glasses and decided I would rather see the map than the mountains. There's a wa...

Re: Glasses

My experience, unhelpfully for the OP, is almost exactly the reverse. I wore glasses for myopia from about 16 till I was past 60, with all the problems described. But then I discovered contacts (torics for astigmatism), and suddenly those problems were all banished. Wonderful. Now that I've had cata...

Re: Lofoten maps

The Map Shop in Upton on Severn always have a good supply of Norwegian 1:50k (and the relatively few 1:25k) maps. Sheets for the main climbing/walking/skiing areas nearly always in stock.
