Re: The Berwyns-Pistyll Rhaeadr

Hi Paul, it was my first time to the area, to us in the Midlands it is a bit nearer than Snowdonia, still no good road though. I really liked the area and the hills were bigger than I expected, looking forward to the Lakes weekend but the weather looks dodgy, take care, Sue :D

Re: Bleaklow and the B29

Hi,did this walk with an ex RAF man Brian, last July, just checking the photos, you had a better day with the weather than us. Always watch out for peat bogs, being shortish they soon swallow me up

Re: GPS

Hi, I know they are expensive but me and hubby swear by the satmap, we can devise our routes online and download, or simply do them on the gps, new software has given some good extras and to be honest we never have to get out the map from the rucksack. I keep my compass skills honed when I'm with th...

Re: Walking Poles

If you keep your eyes peeled you can quite often see the rubber tips on the paths, saves buying them :D although obviously it is best to take them off if you are on grass or wet underfoot as they don't offer much grip. Look forward to your Lakes walks, got any ideas of which fells?

Hi, Mountain Tortoise, yes it has cured my problem and the pulse is as good as it gets. I presume you call yourself that because you think you are slow, we have a tortoise and believe me, they can shift when they want

Re: Helvellyn via Striding Edge

Hi,thanks for the comments, I only started walking in September of 2007, I had a problem with my foot which meant it was getting no blood flow and hence no pulse. The solution was lose weight and get fit or an operation, I chose the former and when going to the gym met a gentleman named Alan "C...

Re: Walking Poles

Hi, nearly all our gang use poles and my husband swears by them, anyone having trouble coming downhill will benefit as the pole takes some of the strain when you plant it and theres less chance of your knee giving way. Its the third (tripod) point of contact, we both feel safer if the descent is a b...

Re: Helvellyn via Striding Edge

Hi,yes we came off Swirral, the bad weather was coming in as predicted and we were shocked to see so many going up mid afternoon with no equipment, not even boots. Shocked but perhaps not surprised as we see it all the time, Helvellyn should be respected..There were some people coming off the summit...
