Having fun on Farragon Hill

Had a good day today wandering up a couple of hills just North of Aberfeldy. Not too far from home so not too much time in the car. The objective today was to visit Meall Tairneachan , have a look at the Barytes mine and then on to Farragon Hill. It all started well, he parked the car in a good plac...

Lyons rampant

A bit of a late start The trip up Glen Lyon is not a good journey for a Collie dog, but at least I had the window open and my nose out most of the way. We arrived at 11:15am and had a good sniff around the dam car park before heading up the new land rover track on the North shore of the loch. "...

Re: Bynack More and Carn Bheadhair

mrssanta wrote:when did you walk that then, as I heard there was 6 inches of snow in Aboyne this morning!!

We were up on Monday. 6-8 inches of snow overnight in town center though roads are still passable with care. Looking very wintry today. Walked round Loch Morlich today, paths a bit muddy.

Bynack More and Carn Bheadhair

Today we parked at Glenmore lodge and set off towards Ryvoan making good time and not stopping until we got up to (site of) Bynack stables where he got the map out to check which path we were going to take. Not sure he got it right but we were soon heading into the mist. The final pull up onto Bynac...

White Creich

Well I haven't been out for a while but hopefully this was the start of some bigger hills for me. On Saturday things seemed to have been a bit rushed and everything was bundled haphazzardly into the car and we were off. A day of wellies rather than rock boots. Glen Devon is just down the road from u...

Ben Tirren

We had a nice little walk up Ben Tirren on Saturday . I was out again with my Sister and her human. Parked at the wood at Adielinn Cottage and walked up the track, crossing the burn and then up the gentle southern slopes on the Loch Wharral track. Ben Tirran 005.jpg There was a herd of red deer just...

Ben Vuirich under snow

What a great day, very hard work for short legs but what a superb day to be out on the hills. A rather late start saw us missing the Sunday skiers on the Glenshee road and come to think of it the lunch time drivers! A slow drive along Glen Brerachan to find the start point found the roads reasonable...

Re: Ben Gulabin

It's a landrover track all the way to the top if you use the "Gulabin track", ie the one that starts from the main road just past the snow gates. Unless it was icy you couldn't slip and if it was , then walking in the heather at the side of the track would provide ample traction. The desce...

Ben Gulabin

I sloped off for an afternoon walk today. Parking at the closed snow gates at the Spittal of Glenshee saw us walking up the side of the main road to the start of the Gulabin track. Gulabin track(2).jpg Soft deep snow was great fun but where it had drifted it was really deep and made for difficult pr...

The most easterly Corbett

I was out again today and was very lucky with the weather. A bright start which wasn't too cold this morning but this afternoon the clouds came in and we got a couple of rain showers. One on the top was snow which was not too bad but got caught just before getting back to the car by rain. Anyway I w...

Geal Carn (Dorback)

Not a nice day but the holidays are coming to an end soon so I had to get out. At Dorback I couldn't get across the river (without getting my feet wet so went the long way) Started up another track but got into the clag early and had the compass out at the watershed and got deep heather and moss wit...

Above Kingussie

My first Corbett and very pleasant it was too. Walked up along the side of the Golf course but didn't find any balls!,crossed the bridge and then up through the dear fence, past the sheep (honest) , crossed the burn, and onto the open fell. Followed the track all the way and found some early season ...
