Re: Glen Coe - Lost valley

Nice one Jockstar, I'm fond of that place. The most recent visit was after a few days of rain, and like you guys I had to eye up the water for a bit before finding a suitable place to cross.
That house-sized boulder in your pic makes a fine little climb 8)

Re: Walk Highlands Late Winter Meet discussion

If it ends up being earlier in March rather than later, then I'm there! HighlandSC and I get married mid-Feb, and I'll be around through 13 March- it could be our honeymoon part 2!

Re: Hello from Wisconsin

Welcome to the forum... from Maryland! :D

Skye offers walks of every shape and size, you'll not be disappointed, and you'll get lots of good ideas from this site. I've been there 5 or 6 times and never seem to be able to fit in all I'd like to do!

Re: Steel grey skies at Sandwood Bay

I like the moody photos as well. I don't think the weather ever gets "bad" at Sandwood... just more "atmospheric"

Re: Steel grey skies at Sandwood Bay

That foamy stuff is usually not pollution. It's all quite natural, caused by organic matter- plants, algae etc- as they decompose they release something which reduces the surface tension of the water, and as wind creates waves on the water it allows lots of air to mix in at the surface and lots of t...

Re: A gentle hike into the hidden depths of rural Perthshire

A thoughtful and beautifully written account  Special places such as this may change physically with the passing of the years, but memory and meaning remain forever untouchable. It's great to have such a place, a window to step through, into a slower-paced world of a different design. I hav...

Re: North Lee, South Lee and Eaval

We did Eaval from Loch Euphort back in May... I hardly remember the walk in, it's all a blur save for something about being ankle-deep in bog and blinking midges out of my eyes... I suspect my brain has blocked out the memory for psychological benefit  The views from the top were well worth it ...

Re: Quiraing, circuit via summit

I'd have been happier sticking with geology, for sure! I don't care a bit for numbers... but the history of the world around me, of the hills, how it all works... fascinating!!
I think a career change will be in order when I move to Scotland... I may seek you out for advice!!

Re: Quiraing, circuit via summit

It's like another world there- a different treat for the eye around every corner. I've read up on some of the geological history of the Quirang... I can see the draw for a geologist! At one point in my life that was what I wanted to do.... but somehow got tangled into investment banking instead, oh ...
