Re: Mull. More than just a Munro!

Nice report, Simon, and thanks for letting me muscle in on your itinerary. The memory of seeing those eagles (my first!) will stay with me for some time to come. And the views from Dun da Ghaoithe were magnificent. However, I take issue with your "one or two" tricky moments on the way up t...

Re: Wild Land - Where are the Supporters?

(CGW and malky_c continued their discussion while I was typing this up offline, and have said much of the same. But I'll go ahead and post this anyway.) Fair points that not everyone feels the same way. I realize in rereading my post that it does rather assume that all 60K+ walkhighlanders share my ...

Re: Wild Land - Where are the Supporters?

I don't always agree with what Mr McNeish says, but I do agree that there seems to be a fair amount of apathy from individual hillwalkers when it comes to making their voices heard with regards to how wild land is defined and developed. I've created several threads on here to try and raise awareness...

Beinn Fhionnlaidh

with Simon. Left car, 09:45 Top, 13:00 (near whiteout; we didn't hang around for very long!) Back to car, 15:30 This is a(nother) walk I'd like to do under better conditions; the route notes describe it as "straightforward," but didn't seem that way this time! over loch creran and out to s...

Dun da Ghaoithe (Mull)

Left car, 9:15 Top, 12:00 Back to car, 14:30 Glorious views from the top (first/only proper full views while on Mull) -- we could see to Skye, Rum, Jura, Arran, as well as up and down the west coast. The track up to the masts was a bit of a slog, but made the going easy. The traverse between the two...

Beinn Talaidh (Mull)

A car-free day. Left from Salen, 9:00am
top, ~13:30
back to B&B, 16:30

The walk up the glen was long, but pleasant. It was warm enough for a while to be down to baselayers, tho that didn't last very long.

Eagles!!

Ben More (Mull)

Caught the early (6:10) ferry from Iona, carried Monica (a woman who'd been on Iona for a workshop whom I'd met briefly in the hostel when I'd popped in to have a nosey) to Craignure, and met/picked up Simon in Salen. left the car, 8:30 top Beinn Fhada, 11:30 top Ben More, ?? car, 17:00 Quite a day....

Iona

Such a special and serene place; I don't have words to do it justice. Three glorious days -- was swooped up at the pier just off the ferry and taken to what is undoubtedly the nicest B&B on the island, because the place I'd booked was full up with the workers who are upgrading the pier. It's sti...

Re: Tom and Toll two totally different hills

Nice, Martin -- just a nice relaxed weekend close to home, then? Are you going soft, or what?

Good job Gary and Leia, too. Looks like it was another fine adventure.

Re: A munro for tomorrow

Hey! Sunny Speyside and I followed crampon-man much of the way down Stob Coire Sgriodain on Sat. He gets around...

(and yes, we did acknowledge that it might well have been crampon-woman. Especially once we realized that we were leaving pretty much exactly the same tracks...)

Fun Dumyat

Really enjoyable outing with Gillian A and her kiddies, who were good fun. We had a bit of sunshine on the way up, and for a while on top, where we had a picnic lunch, but it went quite gray, hazy, and much colder for the walk down.

Fersit finished

Cracking day with Evie. A bit of a last-minute decision after finishing up my SD paper on Thurs eve; some spontaneity (who, me? really?) involved in booking accommodation for Fri after doing Ben Chonzie with Sean. But it all fell into place, and I met Evie in Fersit shortly after 9:00; we set off ri...

Pleasant stroll up Ben Chonzie

Lovely day, lovely walk with Sean (Riverman). Met in Comrie, and I drove us up the glen. Set off at 11:00, returned to the car at 14:45.

Creag Meagaidh NNR and MOTG tour

Wow. Another day of totally unpredictable weather. I thought that heading up to Coire Ardair would be straightforward. So straightforward that I left my rucksack in the car. All was fine as I headed up through the trees, but coming out into the open brought me immediately into deep drifts. After abo...

Start. Stop. Start. Stop. Creag Bheag!

Plan A was to have a wee daunder up the Corrieyarick Pass. The forecast was cr**, and that seemed like a fairly straightforward, put-the-brain-on-autopilot, and just get some exercise endeavour. I was going to drive to Melgarve, but as it was between showers when I got to Garva Bridge, I parked ther...
