My happy days in Knoydart III. (Ladhar Bheinn)

In spite of the bad weather I decided to assail Ladhar Bheinn. Alas at the top the reward wasn't a view, but just clouds and a very strong wind. Nevertheless, it was worth the climb. 521.JPG 528.JPG 535.JPG 547.JPG 552.JPG 552.JPG 557.JPG 559.JPG 562.JPG 570.JPG 581.JPG 589.JPG 593.JPG 593.JPG 594.J...

My happy days in Knoydart II. (Mam Barrisdale)

The second day of my Knoydart-expedition was devoted to Mam Barrisdale. Every now and then it rained, the path was boggy, but the landscape was breathtakingly beautiful. 349.JPG 354.JPG 359.JPG 364.JPG 374.JPG 378.JPG 386.JPG 400.JPG 406.JPG 416.JPG 419.JPG 421.JPG 424.JPG 437.JPG 446.JPG 447.JPG 44...

My happy days in Knoydart I. (Meall Buidhe)

I took the first ferry from Mallaig to Inverie and directly headed for Meall Buidhe. The weather was reasonable. On the slope I enjoyed some beautiful views but alas, the top was wrapped in mist. our_route.gpx 168.JPG 172.JPG 183.JPG 184.JPG 187.JPG 198.JPG 203.JPG 217.JPG 223.JPG 226.JPG 231.JPG 23...

Into the clouds (Carn Mor Dearg via Glen Nevis)

I took the route through Glen Nevis. Leaving Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe behind me whilst crossing the stream Allt a’ Mhuilinn. The steep path led me towards the cloudy summit. our_route.gpx 018.JPG 019.JPG 027.JPG 043.JPG 049.JPG 055.JPG 060.JPG 061.JPG 064.JPG 068.JPG 069.JPG 072.JPG 079.JPG 081.JPG ...

Armadale-Aird of Sleat-Armadale

For 2 long years I had to miss the Highlands but finally, at the end of October 2011, the moment was there. I stayed in Mallaig for a week spending the days walking in the well-known entourage of the fishermen’s village without climbing the Munros or the Corbetts. Since my first visit in 2007 Skye s...

Mallaig-Morar Bay-Mallaig

Initially I was planning to take the ferry to Knoydart but due to bad weather the morning service was cancelled. I decided to walk to the Morar Bay and from there on back to Mallaig and I didn't regret the change of plans. :D our_route.gpx 045.JPG 047.JPG 048.JPG 049.JPG 050.JPG 051.JPG 052.JPG 053....

Salen-Tobermory-Lighthouse circuit (Mull)

In May 2008 we - my wife and I - spent a fews days on Mull. Our operating base was Salen and from there on we made several beautiful walks in wonderful weather. One occasion we went to the lighthouse near Rubha nan Gall, just above Tobermory. We walked on the A848 until the Lochan na Gailne Duibhe a...

Mallaig-Loch Morar (Chapel of Inverbeg)-Mallaig

On the last day before my departure from Mallaig I wanted to make one last beautiful walk in the direction of Loch Morar. It was early in the morning when I left Alans' B&B in Annies Brae. The sky was already very cloudy but it hadn't started to rain yet. I first walked on the side of the A830 a...

Armadale-Point of Sleat-Armadale

A great walk on a sunny day. In October 2011 I hadn’t been further than the village Aird of Sleat. This time my aim was the more distant located lighthouse. On the ferry back to Mallaig the day was completed with a magnificent sunset. If you are looking for beautiful sea views I would recommend the ...
