Re: Access from Dalwhinnie station

Take a bike and park up at the organised park beside the crossing and cycle around to the under pass area
Done this a couple of times now. I agree with not inconveniencing the folks prior to the underpass.
Cycle and leave bike where it suits you.

Re: E-Bike n hike in jig time - Lurg Mhor and Cheesecake

Forgive me I have sinned.
Maybe you will excuse me now that I have gone over to the Darkside ...I now have one of these assisted bikes.
I Am now an Octogenarian. The folks hiring out these bikes occasionally have Sales when getting in new stock for hiring out.

Re: The Cobbler (with Punster's Crack)

This report had me thumbing back through the archives, well my old 'days out on the hills book', to check back to when the Cobbler was visited. A couple of days in 1963 and in 1964. We obviously missed out on a good route with your images and description of the Punster's Crack. :) Our visits go back...

Re: Sgurr Na Stri from Loch Coruisk

I would suggest that the Harvey maps with both scales 1:25,000 and on the other side 1:12,500 will show you the path of approach from where the boat will drop folks off to show clearly the variant of the Skye trail that will take you to a point where you can safely get to the top of the hill. Have u...

Re: Ben Macdui and the Lairig Ghru

I am sure that you will enjoy a visit to the Eastern big hills. We have had a few visits to the area. Once, using the bikes to get to the wee shelter hut in Glen Avon, where we left the bikes, and up to the high ground for a grand day visit...younger in those days on the old Muddy Fox bikes. :) We h...

Re: Ben Macdui and the Lairig Ghru

Nice trip Richard. Now you are extending your knowledge of the Cairngorms. I know that you are a big fan of Glen Feshie and the hills above. Further East during another camping visit? :)

Re: Possible camping spots - Fannaichs

The only time that I have been to visit these hills, feels like in another lifetime, we walked-up from the loch beside the road on a path to camp at Loch a' Mhadaidh on a summer evening. Good access to all of the hills. :)

Re: Call the police - South Loch Laggan 3 with bike

Phew...I thought that I was about to hear about a stolen off road bike. :)
I also see that Geal Charn has been given a new name....Sron Garbh. Well I guess that there are too many hills with that Geal Charn label. :)

Re: Anyone done the MacGillicuddy's Reeks Traverse?

A friend and I did a.travrese of these.hills many years back. The weather became wet.as we.made progress so a bit of care needed on the slippery rock.on the ridges.
Overall a nice day.out with typical Irish entertainment in.the hostelry where the pony and traps take folks.up the Glen.

Re: Part of path closed with detour - wish we'd known earlie

As for the the part of your walk that went through the Wildcat trail. I have been that way a couple of times but in the clockwise direction. The first time I did not know about the blocked area alongside the Allt Lairaidh until I came out at the road into Newtonmore where there was a notice. I don't...

Re: Glen Feshie - Allt Garbhlach dangerously eroded

Hello Moriarty....have just looked at my Ordnanace Survey maps ....the £20 per annum ones that I use on my phone. You are correct both of these paths out to the Garbhlach burn are now shown....maybe updated recently? The Memory Maps that I have had for many years on my PC and on the phone have of co...

Re: Part of path closed with detour - wish we'd known earlie

The original Badenoch Way ....If I recall covered ground between The Bird Hide near to Ruthven Barracks and out to the Alvie Camping park. This had and still has some interesting walking sections That have been ignored by the new, access for all, Speyside Way that is fine for access less able folks ...

Re: Glen Feshie - Allt Garbhlach dangerously eroded

I have been going on about this problem area for several years now including a couple of times on here. The Ordnance Survey maps that I have of both 1:50,000 and the 1:25,000 series have your so called minor path shown as the only path out to the crossing. I guess that .my maps are a wee bit out of ...

Re: Monadh Mor & Beinn Bhrotain - bike n hike from Feshiebri

Up here the paths whether specially constructed or just worn into a workable way of getting around over many years are available for use by all walkers and travellers....walkers, horse riders, dog walkers, folks with large camping packs and of course bikers. When bikers are using these paths special...
