The "Photo of the day" topic now has quite a few really good shots in it. It would be great if there was a board to post larger images which could be saved as desktop wallpaper. So that this were useful to other users, it could be stipulated that images must me cropped and resized to 1024x...

Re: stob binnein and ben more from the south

I did Beinn Tulaichean and Cruach Ardrain from this side a couple of years ago on one of my first proper "bagging" trips. I too had to re-climb the first munro as visibility was zero and I wasn't sure what the ground was like to head straight down to Inverlochlarig Glen. Now, being a bit m...

Re: Lochnagar & Carn a Choire Bhoidheach

I did say "of the ones I've done". I'm leaving Cairnwell for a very special occasion

Re: Lochnagar & Carn a Choire Bhoidheach

Carn a Choire Bhoidheach is certainly the naffest munro I've bagged and, as you say, is the sort of hill that gives list tickers a bad name. The reality is that this hill would be ignored (rightly) were it not a munro.

Re: Daddy Chuil

The track to the SE of Sgiath Chuil would be a good approach on a mountain bike. I thought about this but the initial ascent from Auchlyne looks tough before you reach the boggy plateau (unless you are a strong cyclist - I'm not).

Daddy Chuil

Sunday 10 May Weather: easterly breeze but not cold, warm in direct sun, just 1 short shower This was a bit of a last minute trip. I try not to drive more than 2.5 hour each way on the one day - it tires/bores/stresses me. These 2 munros climbed from Auchessan on the A85 seemed like a good choice as...

Re: Glen Feshie munros

RE: Braeriach The long walk doesn't really phase me. I guess I'm just trying to get a away from some of the typical "baggers" routes (not that there is anything wrong with them). I have a real need for the solitude and that sense of wilderness which you can only get with certain routes. I ...

Re: Are the hills just for certain people?

This is a bit bizarre. Why do you need to encourage people to do anything? I see hills and scenery and choose to go walking amongst them - I don't see why someone from a diferent ethnic background cannot make that choice for themselves. Basing such an initiative on opportunity makes more sense - I r...

Glen Feshie munros

Saturday 2nd May. Weather: classic spring day - sun, wind and showers (a mixture of snow, hail and rain but only for very short periods). These hills would be a good introduction to the Cairgorms. Route finding is easy due to Landrover tracks and paths throughout. The carpark near Auchlean was full ...

Re: Numpty!

I did have vague recollections of sheep and cloud and grass which is why I asked the question - almost wish I hadn't! Ignorance can be bliss.

Re: Walking Poles

I too use the cheapo Tiso poles and they seem fine to me (although don't lose the rubber tips like I did) - you get 2 poles for £30 (or £20 each).

Numpty!

Was last out on the warm weekend of the 18/19 April climbing Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a' Chreachain - what I thought were my 48th and 49th munros. Last night I popped round to see my folks for dinner and it transpired that I actually climbed Ben Chonzie as a kid meaning that Beinn Achaladair was, ...

Re: Walking Poles

I've just started using 2 poles in the past 3 months. I find them most useful when walking on the side of slopes - they really take the strain off your lower foot and even your balance out nicely. You usually don't need to bother shortening/lengthening them - just hold them a bit higher or lower on ...
