Re: Drinking water in the hills

Never had any issues, though I just pop in a couple of tablets just to be sure, water on the hills tastes far fresher than the stuff you buy or get out the taps

Been think about this for a while,

Re: Insoles

I don't have flat feet, I can tell from the wet carpet in the mornings when I've been for a shower   I did a bit of investigation last night and found that my boots already have arch support built in, coupled with the strobothane being twice as thick as the originals, that's probably when ...

Insoles

I bought a pair of Scarpa ZG65's last year which are now well broken in, the fit is good and they're very comfy, however I just felt there was something missing with the foot support. I changed the original insoles for a pair of sorbothane double strikes that I had in a drawer from my previous boots...

Re: Gear reviews - Trail shoes

I've a pair of Merrell trail shoes, which I find great for proper paths and decent terrain. However, last year I went arse over tit and twisted my ankle quite badly, unfortunately I was on the drovers road between Corrour and Rannoch, so it was quite a hard slog to get my backside to Rannoch (I was ...

Re: Trousers and Pants

I have 3 pairs of Craghoppers, convertables, winter lined and normal basecamp

All 3 dry out pretty quickly and very comfy to wear, they won't win you any fashion awards but unless you're doing the WHW or climbing Nevis, that's not really a problem

I'm supposed to be going to Arran next weekend.

Re: Winter boots and crampons at a reasonable price

As mentioned on another thread, these are a good deal: http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/climbing-technology-10-point-classic-c1-crampon-e7310012 As for boots, getting a good fit is by far the most important thing. You can find online deals on B1 boots like Scarpa SL or Mammut Mountain Trail down to a...

Winter boots and crampons at a reasonable price

Just wondering if there's anywhere that sells these at a decent price.

The usual suspects want almost £300 and upwards, which I find a bit steep.

Unfortunately I do do have rather big feet (size 12) so very rarely see any up for sale second hand

Just bumping this up as I'm planning on doing this next month albeit the other way round (North - South) I'm hoping to get some blue skies :D :D Citylink from Glasgow - Portree is only £5 one way at the moment, hoping next week it's the same price for the way back. Re: At what point do you say something?

I have met people like this on numerous occasions. If they ask I will discuss the conditions if not I leave them to their own devices. People think your being a smart arse know it all. Once I met a university walking club walking in hip deep snow, 3 of the group were walking in trainers. My MR walk...
