Re: A few days in Shetland

What a fantastic wild-life fest - although the avian flu toll is very depressing. It's clear to me now that I didn't focus adequately on the bird life when we lived there in the late 70s. Phalaropes are really something special, and I wasn't then even aware that they were present. Loved the report. ...

Re: Aborted Cruachan 4: horror show bivvy on Beinn Eunaich

That made a sobering read! I've only done a small amount of bivvying - which I've absolutely loved (200gm bivvy bag vs. 1.3 kg tent - who couldn't??). But I've been super careful about weather - even the tiniest hint of the wet stuff, and I've always gone with the tent. Your report reinforces my lon...

2022 06 Tryfan Scramblefest

The plan for today, smithed the previous evening over a glass or two of mineral water in the academic library (Welsh transl. Bryn Twrch) ... https://i.ibb.co/FVSCnHJ/Bryn-Twrch.jpg … was simply to scramble around on the west face of Tryfan, starting off with Milestone Approach, and then moving on as...

Re: Carn Mor Dearg from Fersit - part 3

3 days of that sort of weather! Stunnin' !!!

Great vicarious pleasure reading your report (though I'm glad that I visited CMD and friends starting at the top, rather than the bottom!).

Re: All der six in a day, bike and hike !

Nice one! This really is one of the finest places in the Highlands. The cycle in really gets one out into wilderness. I see you did the round in your customary double quick time! It took me a good bit longer, and I cycled out the previous day, and back the following morning - my excuse is that I inc...

Re: Amazing Arkle, freezing Ben Klibreck and the beautiful N

-5 degrees with wind chill in June! Yes, indeed - that's what my walking companion said as we ascended Pen-yr-Ole-Wen in Snowdonia on 31st May (and he'd not brought any gloves, it being summer an' all!!!). But if you'd been carrying your usual Everest-dimensioned back pack, wouldn't that have kept y...

Re: Borrowdale Catch-up

Interesting route, but I don't fancy that descent of Eagle Crag  :D   .... While I took a different route down from Eagle Crag (west into Langstrath), it was equally as awkward in its own way  . We can exchange war stories over a beer shortly in Knoydart!!! I see no men...

Ogwen Day 2 - The Carneddau

We both crashed immediately after our evening meal on day 1, and were up quite early - how great it was to be under canvas again! Less great were the swarms of midges - and there was no wind! But we got off fairly promptly, and had started the route for the day - the Carneddau and Yr Elen - by 08.45...

Tryfan & Glyders June 2022 with Phil

This was the first of 3 days in Snowdonia with Phil. He left the choice of route to me as he hadn't been in Snowdonia since school days. So after a bit of discussion, I thought we could try Tryfan and the Glyders to start off with, and perhaps some of the others depending how we got along. He fancie...
