Re: WH Summer Meet - 13-14 July 2018

Not looking great for Saturday as things stand but we'll just have to "accept the things we cannot change" and see what Paddy says when I phone him on Friday evening. It's still early days and things can change very quickly.

Re: WH Summer Meet - 13-14 July 2018

I've managed to get the Friday off work and intend to drive up super-early and ferry the car over to Raasay for a scoot around and a bit of walking. Particularly interested in a walk to Hallaig and maybe a hike up Dun Caan. If anybody fancies joining me then get in touch and it'll save ferrying two ...

Re: Easiest Munro on Skye?

Sgurr Alasdair is, in my opinion, not technically challenging if tackled via the stone chute. But the stone chute can be a bit unsettling with the loose scree, the steepness, and the feeling of being boxed in where the gully narrows towards the top. From the top of the chute to the summit only very ...

Re: wild camping, about to try for first time, advice please

I usually have things like a tin of curry or chilli to heat up on my stove but making rice to go with it obviously requires two stoves which is no use on your own. So instead of rice I take pitta bread with me which has the added advantage of already being flattened so you don't have to worry about ...

Re: Aonach Eagach - bricking it a bit

Aonach Eagach was about as scary as I expected it to be, no better no worse. If you're going East to West which is the easiest way then a lot of people think the descent from Am Bodach is the hardest part but I found that part really straightforward and thought the pinnacles were the most difficult ...

Re: Plane flying through Glen Shiel

I saw one of those flying down Glen Tilt last year when I was pitching my tent at Bedford Bridge. Felt so close that I could have thrown a stone up and hit it. It was gone before I could get the camera out though.

Re: Loch Mullardoch Munros 19th May

I've just realised there's more ascent on this round than there is on the Ring of Steall which probably explains why stairs are still problematic 48hrs later

Re: Loch Mullardoch Munros 19th May

Well I’m glad we got the boat because my quads feel like concrete this morning  If I’d done the full route back along the shore I don’t think my legs would be speaking to me for a while. Fabulous day out in perfect conditions though. Good to see lots of people out enjoying it too. Thanks again ...

Re: Victoria Pendleton

There’s also been some suggestion from Fogle that Pendleton struggled with the altitude on some of the mountains they climbed as a part of their training.

Re: Victoria Pendleton

I also immediately thought “surely not”, but the 21% figure is quoted on Fogle’s Instagram and he described the reading as “that’s nearly dead” suggesting that it’s not a typo and they knew how serious the situation was. Who really knows though, I guess we’ll need to wait to hear the full story.

Victoria Pendleton

I don't know if anybody has been following Victoria Pendleton & Ben Fogle on their attempt to climb Everest? I've been following the Instagram updates and noticed this morning that Pendleton has had to come off the expedition after a bout of hypoxia at Camp 2. Apparently her oxygen saturation re...

Re: Which is the easier, Forcan or RoS?

Can't comment on the Forcan ridge as I've not done it. The scrambling on the RoS barely qualifies as scrambling. There is one awkward move on the Devil's Ridge which can be bypassed by dropping down onto a faint path which skirts below the tricky bit. The difficulty of the RoS is the unrelenting ups...

Re: sugar tax - what's your go to drink?

I try to avoid fizzies as I just see them as calories that i'll need to burn off. So my go to drink tends to be the good old cooncil juice - tap water. I've always found it curious that people will pay for bottled drinking water in a country where the stuff that flows out of the taps or off the hill...

Re: HELP! shin splints : how to avoid??

I used to get shin splints from playing football on some of the early all weather pitches which were little more than a layer of felt glued onto concrete. Once you've got them the only cure is rest and you're looking at six weeks minimum. In terms of prevention it can help to do some stretches of th...

Re: WH SPRING MEET 13-15th APRIL 2018

What's everyone's current plans for the meet? I'm currently looking at mopping up some Marilyns and probably some missed Munro tops whether it be Glenshee or from Linn of Dee If the weather plays ball then I plan to do Beinn a'Bhuird & Ben Avon on the Saturday. It looks a long tough day out tho...
