Re: Name that Loch!

I'm thinking Loch Torridon in the distance, but struggling with the foreground; maybe Loch na h-Oidhche?

Re: Ungritted roads advice

The forecast is lousy indeed, with a mix of hail, snow and rain at very low temperatures leading to that kind of wet slush with hailstones in it which is like driving on axle grease with ball-bearings in it. I hoped to get up to Skye but I'll just leave it til the road conditions improve. And maybe ...

Re: Water bottle pouches

I prefer a metal bottle as plastic cracks or splits, and gives the water a weird taste (carcinogens, mmmm... carcinogens... ). I also prefer a waist-belt-mounted bottle in a fabric holder, military style. These can be got for much cheapness at army surplus stores. If the weather is particularly cold...

Re: B1 vs B2 boots for winter mountain walking

A quick tip before I forget. Try and avoid boots with "climbing zone" marked on the toe. You'll trash these pretty quickly in typical Scottish winter conditions. Also avoid ones with Fisher-Price "My First Climbing Boots!" painted on too. https://www.elc.co.uk/shop-by-ag...

Re: Name that Loch!

Round Loch of the Dungeon? Huzzah! At last, yes. Where Robert Bruce fought off an attack by highland mercenaries doing Longshanks' work for him, guided by the Bruce's own hounds which they had nicked from Loch Doon castle. Near Backhill O' Bush bothy, by the Silver Flow (an area of raised bog, a bi...
