River Lune, Lancaster and Williamson Park

New_Route (25).gpx A walk I have had my eye on for some time. Around Lancaster and then up to the Ashton Memorial on Williamson Park - using large parts of the Lancashire Coastal Way, Lune Valley Ramble and Lancaster Canal to make a longer walk. Interesting parts throughout but maybe too many tarma...

Blencathra (Gategill Fell)

New_Route (27).gpx Working the morning in Penrith but a great afternoon for a first Blencathra of the year. Steeply up the quiet Gategill Fell and then down gradually via Blease Fell. Much snow melt (just the odd patch) but rocks a bit greasy. 1 (1).jpg 1 (2).jpg 1 (3).jpg 1 (4).jpg 1 (5).jpg 1 (6)...

Much nicer day for another local walk - always glad to be relatively close to some hills in January.

Nice viewpoints but plenty of tarmac. Wet and muddy fields.

Longridge Fell, Hurst Green and Stonyhurst

New_Route (25).gpx A dry but very windy afternoon walk from Hurst Green. Up Longridge Fell via a couple of foothills and back through the plantations, alongside the River Hodder and finally the grounds of Stonyhurst College as the sun set. Muddy in stretches - the path through the woods by the Hodd...

Quad Nook

New_Route (23).gpx Morning walk before work. Once again I didn't want to risk anywhere untreated so early in the morning so Scorton it was again. I'd found out earlier in the month that Holme Wood was closed so decided that if it was still closed, I was going to do several ascents of Nicky Nook fro...

Morning run up Nicky Nook

Thought roads may be icy so defaulted to a run up Nicky Nook (nearly didn't go at all)- roads were fine and this was a lovely pre-work run.

Went up a slightly different way.

Great Hill and Darwen Moor from Brinscall

New_Route (24).gpx Lovely local walk on a frosty day with a very cold easterly wind. This may be my favourite of all the "yearly" local walks - moors, reservoirs and woodlands with great views. Plus all the boggy bits were frozen solid today making for fast walking. Jan 24 (1).jpg Jan 24 ...

Bleaberry Fell, Walla Crag and Castlehead

New_Route (23).gpx Risked a dodgy forecast for a trip to Keswick with Wendy and a hike up Bleaberry Fell. Weather better than expected with only one shower and light winds (at last). 1 Castlehead.jpg 2 In the woods.jpg 3 Views.jpg 4 Views.jpg 5 Catbells.jpg 6 Walla.jpg 7 Heading up.jpg 8 Summit.jpg...

Harrisend, Barnacre, Holme Wood Hill and Double Nicky

New_Route (22).gpx Weather continues to be rubbish but spied a dry few hours on the 2nd for a local walk with an early start. Holme Wood is closed due to a bridge collapse so I had to detour over Holme Wood Hill (not access land) and back via Fell End Farm. Worked ok and decided to do Barnacre afte...

A dark start for what will be my last walk of 2023 and a very windy one in Bowland.

Another good year on the fells!

Hutton Roof Crags and Holme Park Fell

New_Route (20).gpx An unpromising (and very windy) forecast for the lads Christmas walk and with one of the lads only finishing his night shift at 8am we decided to stay relatively close to home and do these two terrific little hills in the Arnside and Silverdale area. Making a longer walk of it fr...

Height House Hill and Wilpshire Moor from Spring Wood

New_Route (19).gpx A relatively local walk to two previously unclimbed summits. Some nice walking around Whalley Nab and Dean Clough Reservoir but pretty horrible, busy roads to navigate to Height House Hill - so I would certainly omit that on a return visit. Weather colder than weekend and more bl...

Re: Lower Kentmere Round

Quite an epic and some very good views, Broggy. Did it seem like Potter Fell would be rough going even at a dry time? That gets a pretty good write-up in the Outlying Fells (modern update) and I had been rather more tempted before I read your report! Hi Poppies, I'm probably being a bit hars...
