Re: Fannich Reflections

An interesting approach! I've never seen a gate lock mechanism like that before - very ingenious, shame it prevents free access to the hill... The loch reflections look spectacular, it was a very still day to the south too, I was able to unfold an entire 1:50000 map on the summit of Bac an Eich (to ...

No backache on Bac an Eich

After yesterday's cracking jaunt on the the steep sided peaks further down Strathconon, today was to be more of a long trek. I had camped at the road end on the shore of Loch Beannacharain (easy for you to say), only disturbed by the odd snipe and a pair of whooper swans nearby. Overnight temperatur...

Strathconon Sun

My first visit to Strathconon except for a wee bit of cragging at Scatwell last century. What a pleasant surprise. I parked on the grass beside the sheepfank at Strathanmore beside another couple of vehicles. The weather was fine blue skies except a little breezy at this level. Onto the heathery hil...

Re: Crock-ing around (and over) the Christmas trees

An attractive line on the map hides a battle of body and soul in those trees. I think your feet would have been drier wearing a pair of Crocks

Meall an Fhudair under the pylons

A lot of melted snow, probably just about freezing at summit level. Light winds and grand views.

Re: Awe-some horseshoe

Great report of a grand day out. Next time I think I'd try to keep on the ridge of Sron an Isean for longer, dropping off the ridge in an ESE direction after the 450m contour - would have made a cleaner route on the map.
