Re: MCofS consultation on vehicle access and the Long Walk In

I changed my mind after reading what it actually is about and I would say it has to be decided on an individual basis, route by route. It would be a shame if good climbing routes would disappear because access is difficult. What is it actually about? Is it all a conspiracy between the Priory of Sci...

Re: Ben Vorlich

Excellent photos, espesh. on top of Ben Vorlich with the sun behind you. Good stuff, and well done on getting out and into it. Winter skills courses are expensive and brief, joining a club would get you in contact with more experienced climbers/walkers who can give you hints, tips, help and advice o...

Re: First Winter Experience

Get yourself some crampons and an ice axe you do need an ice-axe and crampons and to learn how to use them And a helmet! Don't forget the helmet. As I was ploughing a furrow down the north face of Ben Nevis with my nose, using my face as an ice-breaker through the crust of frozen snow through which...

Re: Arran

Is Arran good in winter? I also thought that Arran got less snow because of the gulf stream I used to live on the mainland opposite Arran, and often admired the snowy peak of Goat Fell, when all around on the mainland was bare. I reckon the Gulf Stream thing only works down around sea level, once y...

Re: bothy hopping? around ben nevis

walk around the fort william area for a friends stag do next summer. ideally the walk should take several days and end somewhere we can all have a booze or two... the idea of "bothy hopping" has been suggested to me, and sounds ideal, I must be the only one grumpy enough to point out that...

Re: Regional Advice

I am sprogless, but have been to the areas you mention. I reckon Loch Lomond/Trossachs is too busy, and full of maybe the wrong sort for having sproglings around (I mean groups of Glasgow hillwalkers who play hard and drink hard - all bloody night). The Pitlochry area is nice, there is a good family...

Re: Buffalo - Special 6 Shirt

I've got one, but I find it's of limited use; fine in the right sort of weather but if it is too hot or too cold for the Buffalo then you're stuffed, and have to get changed, which means carrying a change of clothing, which makes it pointless in the first place. Also not good if you end up in the so...

Re: some of my photos

Nice photos, liked the ones of Loch Ard especially. I reckon your big scarey pawprint is just a dog, you can see the claw marks and it's a pointy kind of print. If you find one bigger than your handspan, with round pads, get out fast, it's a big cat! Where was the summit cairn? (better still, post t...

Re: Cold Camera

my camera decided to stop working at the top and then telling me my batteries were dead... On descent it came back to life again. I had this same problem with a digital on Aonach Mhor one glorious day of sun and snow. The camera announced that the batteries were low and then shut down, despite the ...
