Re: Stay at home

Yep, it seems the SG have taken on board some of the valid criticism of yesterday's rather vague statement - which is to their credit.

Re: 5 mile radius - best & worst places to live vs. reality

It turns out that 5 miles is not the same in rural areas as it is in cities... https://www.vimeo.com/421106922.

Re: Best way to improve scrambling skills

The Lakes are a good place to start - lots of routes and many are escapable and not too long. You need to learn how to control your body weight with your feet, hands and general balance. This takes practice but is a perfectly natural process - human beings learn how to keep themselves safe pretty qu...

Re: Lake District Congestion Charging

but most of Scotland is inaccessible to the casual walker unless they have a car. Am afraid I would disagree with this as I have done over 120 Munros by public transport(bus, train, ferry) plus Corbetts and Grahams,so it can be done. "Inaccessible" is probably the wrong word but most workin...

Re: WH Summer Meet - Inverie - 10-12 July 2020

The Mam Barrisdale bealach between Ladhar Bheinn and Luinne Bheinn at roughly 450m - are there any feasible wild camping spots up there or is Barrisdale Bothy pretty much the only show in town for breaking up the journey? And is it both possible and desirable to scuttle up and down Ladhar Bheinn fr...

Re: Sgurr nan Eag, Sgurr Dubh Mor, and Sgurr Alasdair Circui

You can make a nice circuit by cutting over the lower Coir' a' Ghrunnda slabs and the stream and heading up the SW buttress of SnE. It's in the SMC Skye Scrambles book and is good fun - about grade 2/3 IIRC. Rough GPS track here (I'm not going to draw a full route as I don't think it would be very h...

It's a lovely part of the country - most of the shorter walks here should be fine.

Re: Kilometres

I think it's fair to say that using metric units for hill lists which are based on imperial parameters is a bit untidy. Indeed, mixing the two is usually considered to be pretty poor practice. However, the reality is that the metric system is considerably easier to understand than imperial and is mo...
