Re: How to get hill fit - Meall Ghaordaidh & Ben Cruachan

Some nice atmospheric photos there, a fine reward for all your fitness preparation and it is a good thing to do to just sit and watch the evolving scene when the clouds part like that I think.

Eididh nan Clach Geala

Noticed the weather looked promising for the morning but that the wind would pick up through the day so I thought about a walk with an easy up and down route and Eididh nan Clach Geala came to mind from recent plans. I was ready to start walking at 6.15am which was a little bit later than I would h...

Re: The 2024 Season Has Started

Seven miles a day for three months is pretty good going. I probably average seven miles a week but if I could find a good route to repeat I'd probably do something similar just to maintain fitness. Anyway, looks a decent walk that. Been on the other sides of Loch Lee so this could be next.

Re: Ben Chonzie

Must have been hell for you having to wait till dawn to start - your normally halfway back down the hill by then!! That is usually the case but at this time of year I can be put off if the windchill forecast is looking numbing. Not sure how much to believe in it but a few years ago I was on B...

Re: Three classic Snowdonia scrambles in one day

Some fantastic inversion photos there and an adventurous sounding trip all round. Always looking for ways to cut down weight but not sure about sandals.

Re: Ben Chonzie

Nice day for it albeit looked a tad chilly at the top  [size=150]The shortened stride length seemed to make a huge difference as I was able to complete the ascent without ever stopping to catch my breath but that could have been partly due to the easy gradient of the track up. Or maybe my ...

In retrospect it was a great day but maybe slightly taken for granted at the time though I am glad now, obviously, that I made the effort.

Re: Hill fitness

Ben Chonzie or not, thats still a great accomplishment.Been reading your walk reports. I got myself incredibly fit during 2020 lockdown , running for cardio ( that was hell to start with)and gym work for strength and was powering up the hills .Almost a different experience. Unfortnately, lack of mo...

Ben Chonzie

Tried some things to make this an easier and more pleasant experience: wax on the boots, extra pair of socks, shortened stride length. The wax made a huge difference as I had been putting up with a bit of water ingress recently but for some reason never got round to doing the obvious. The extra soc...

Re: Hill fitness

I tried shortening my stride yesterday and for the first time in a couple of years I was able to ascend a hill without stopping. Mind you it was Ben Chonzie so maybe not an acid test.

Re: Bodha Hunish

Terrific! Only ever got to the shelter/bothy…the descent down the cliff section looked quite steep but we ran out of time anyway.Such a beautiful peninsula. Thanks Anne. If the rock had been slippery I wouldn't have bothered but it it felt fine despite the earlier drizzle and there's plenty stickin...

Cheers. Can't really go wrong on the Skye coast. Been in this area a few times but still had to stop and stare; just don't get tired of it.

It was a fine sunrise. I was supposed to get to the start at dawn but didn't get up early enough for that. That meant though that I got better views of the sunrise as a lot of the Craigston Castle walk is lower lying than the surrounding land..
