Re: Linking Ben Nevis/CMD with Aonachs?

So descending - or indeed ascending - on the east side of the Coire Eoghainn is not to be recommended then? Although the Carn Dearg route is only about less than mile longer... OB I doubt if there would be much difference in the time or effort required for either one as the actual steep ascent is s...

Re: Ring of Steal or Ben Nevis

The Ring of Steall and the ben from the north face car park via CMD are both outstanding routes. Whatever one you choose I would recommend you come back and do the other one some other time. :D

Re: Linking Ben Nevis/CMD with Aonachs?

I can't find any reports of folk descending Ben Nevis to the south That's because they're dead. The huge convex boiler-plate slabs of rock lead you to a false sense of security, before a very real sense of impending death. Many folk have got into deep trouble descending to the south. It is well doc...

Re: Camping down Glen Nevis

Jmarkb I've had a look at routes up Sgurr a' Mhaim from the Steall hut but never done it. The area around there is one of the busiest (after the ben) for the Lochaber MRT. I was wondering how easy the traverse is and if the start of the NE ridge is fairly obvious because I fancy giving it a go. I'v...

Grangers G-Wax Boot Protector?

I have a pair of Meindl Burma leather boots about 2 years old. I use Grangers g wax to protect the leather and it also helps waterproof the boot. I find that goretex boots starts to leak eventually after sustained heavy use. When I went in to an outdoor store to get a new tin of wax the guy said I s...

Re: The Gray Corries

The road up to park the car is ok just for a normal car not a 4x4. Some reports suggested not????? It was fine a year ago: I guess it's maybe a problem if your car doesn't have much ground clearance. It's still fine though I wouldn't take my Ferrari up there............................................

I'm perfectly capable of looking at maps and creating routes......but I'm a great believer in tried n tested.

I take it it didn't work then.

Enjoy the Loch Tay hills :D

Re: Camping down Glen Nevis

From experience, there's a LOT of tourist traffic at this time of year and a lot of folk who don't seem to know understand what a thumb means. When I eventually got picked up many empty cars later, it was LeithySuburbs of these parts who gave me a lift back o the hostel :D :D Kevin I reckon you wer...

Re: Amazing Ardgour

Two great reports and pictures in one of my favourite areas. I was there on Sunday myself heading back to Inverness from Mull via Ardnamurchan, Lochailort etc. Ben Resipole looked beautiful on Sunday night and I was tempted myself :D

Re: Glen Affric havoc

To me, it mostly seems to be about money for land and estate owners, money for the energy companies, and good PR for the Scottish government. With very little consideration granted to any inherent value of pristine and beautiful landscapes. Your right that is what It's all about, the estate owners ...
