I think they are next to the Luibeg Burn, looking up towards Sron Riach (the SE ridge of Ben Macdui). I do believe you're right. I knew it rang a bell somewhere, I just haven't been back there for years. This link (3rd picture down) shows what looks like the same steep slope which is behind the fig...

Corrie Sputan Dearg way up Glen Luibeg, Carn Crom on the right leading along to Derry Cairngorm, and on the left is Cairn a'Mhaim leading up to Sron Riach and Ben MacDui. Eastern Cairngorms.
